PMIC DIO8018
Jiangsu Dioo Microelectronics has recently launched the PMIC DIO8018, which integrates 7 channels of high-performance LDOs, specifically designed to provide power supply solutions for applications with multiple cameras, such as smartphones, tablets, and XR devices.
In a camera module, the CMOS image sensor typically requires three power supplies (Core, I/O, and Analog). Some cameras also have power supply requirements for auxiliary functions such as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Auto Focus (AF). A single camera module may require 3 to 5 power supplies, and devices like tablets, smartphones, and XR often utilize multiple camera modules.
The characteristics and requirements of the power supply load for camera modules vary. There are digital circuits that require high current and fast dynamic response for DVDD, as well as analog circuits that are very sensitive to power supply noise for AVDD. Different models of cameras may also require different output voltages and currents. Since the power supply for camera sensors generally follows the principle of nearby power supply, the main PMIC of the platform is usually located far from the camera, and it often does not have enough channels to power multiple cameras. Using multiple discrete LDOs is one solution, but it occupies a large area on the PCB, posing a significant challenge for the structural design and PCB layout of multi-camera module devices.
The DIO8018 meets the high current and fast dynamic response required for DVDD, while also satisfying the high PSRR and low noise requirements for AVDD, making it the perfect solution for multi-camera applications.

Integrated 7-Channel LDO
The DIO8018 is a PMIC with integrated 7 channels of LDOs, featuring 2 high-current low-dropout LDOs (LDO1/2 output current up to 1.5A, capable of powering the DVDD of high-pixel cameras) and multiple high PSRR LDO power rails for noise-sensitive power supplies (LDO3-7’s Vsys to Vout, PSRR can reach over 92dB at 1KHz, suitable for powering the AVDD of cameras).

Low Dropout
The DIO8018 features a very low dropout, with typical values of 120mV for LDO1/2 at an output of 1.2V/1.5A; 100mV for LDO3/4/6 at an output of 2.8V/0.3A; and 135mV for LDO5/7 at an output of 2.8V/0.6A.

Multiple Chip Protection Features
The DIO8018 includes undervoltage protection, overcurrent protection, and over-temperature protection to effectively safeguard the chip from damage.
-
If the output voltage of the DIO8018 drops to 20% of the set voltage (10% for LDO1/2) for more than 100us, the interrupt INT pin will be pulled high, and the LDO output will be turned off.
-
The overcurrent protection of the DIO8018 can be set via I2C to limit the current. In the event of a load short circuit, the DIO8018 will automatically limit the output current to within the set limit. If the DIO8018 remains in current limit for more than 1ms, the INT pin will be pulled high, and the LDO output will be turned off.
-
When the temperature of the DIO8018 chip reaches 115℃, it will activate a thermal warning event. When the chip temperature drops to 100℃, the thermal warning event will be deactivated. If the chip temperature rises to 155℃, the DIO8018 will activate a thermal shutdown event.
Five Independent Input Pins
The DIO8018 has five independent input pins for each LDO: VIN12 for LDO1 and LDO2, VIN34 for LDO3 and LDO4, and VIN5, VIN6, and VIN7 for LDO5, LDO6, and LDO7 respectively. The DIO8018 also has an independent system input VSYS, which serves as a bias pin for the LDOs.

I2C Configuration of Output Voltage
The output voltage (8mV/step) and current limit points of each LDO in the DIO8018 can be configured via I2C, and it also provides two power-up modes: auto and individual, allowing users to meet different camera power supply needs and providing great flexibility for customer designs.
Additionally, the DIO8018 offers an ultra-small WLCSP-20 package (1.61×1.96mm), which can save PCB area for customer designs.
