Recently, Valve released the Steam Link App, which allows games to be run on mobile devices with the help of more powerful machines, while streaming video to the mobile device. Even better, Steam Link (beta) also supports Raspberry Pi!
The principle of Steam Link is to use a WiFi network to stream the computer’s screen to the Raspberry Pi, and the game controller connected to the Raspberry Pi can be used to operate the games. You can enjoy Steam games on your computer remotely with the Raspberry Pi. In other words, players must purchase games on the Steam platform in advance and install them on their computers; the Raspberry Pi is only used as a second display and for control purposes, and the games will not occupy the storage space of the Raspberry Pi.
All you need to do is run Raspbian Stretch and follow the instructions below to install Steam Link:
wget http:
//media
.steampowered.com
/steamlink/rpi/steamlink_1
.0.5_armhf.deb
sudo
dpkg -i steamlink_1.0.5_armhf.deb
After installation, you can run steamlink in the command line or run Steam Link from the game menu in the desktop environment.
Support for Steam Link has been added to RetroPie, here is a demonstration video:
