Samsung Electronics Unveils AI Dual-Arm Robot Technology: Achieving a 90% Success Rate in Complex Manufacturing Tasks

STC 2025 Conference Showcases Multiple Cutting-Edge Innovations in AI Ecosystem

Recently, Samsung Electronics publicly unveiled its core technology for AI-driven dual-arm robots during the “Samsung Technology Conference 2025 (STC 2025)” online meeting. This robot is equipped with the VLA (Vision-Language-Action) model, independently developed by Samsung Research Institute, demonstrating exceptional performance in manufacturing scenarios such as waste sorting, refrigerator hose insertion, and surface mount technology (SMT) solder paste mixing, achieving a success rate of 80% to 90% in complex tasks, marking a significant breakthrough in Samsung’s technological accumulation in the field of intelligent manufacturing robots.

According to Kwon Jeong-hyeon, head of the Robotics Intelligence Team at Samsung Research Institute’s Robotics Center, this AI dual-arm robot achieves precise execution of complex operational tasks by integrating visual information from cameras with instructive language commands. Its core advantage lies in its efficient data processing and learning capabilities: the robot can automatically collect sensor and action data and upload it to the server, converting it into training material for the VLA model. In an RTX5090 GPU environment, a single inference takes only 40 milliseconds (0.04 seconds), providing technical support for high-speed operations. For the critical solder paste mixing operation in electronic manufacturing, the robot maintains a high success rate of around 90% even in complex operational scenarios, validating the practicality and reliability of the technology.

“For robots to truly be implemented in manufacturing sites, they must achieve close to 100% success rates in more diverse environments and reach operational speeds comparable to humans,” Kwon Jeong-hyeon stated. Samsung will continue to optimize the VLA model by integrating human operational image data, real-simulation-based virtual data, and specialized reinforcement learning models for assembly scenarios, pushing the technology towards practical production applications.

At this conference, in addition to the core robot technology, Samsung Electronics also shared advancements in AI-optimized Tizen operating system (OS), AI intelligent agents, and other cutting-edge technologies and commercialization progress. Samsung Electronics’ DX Division Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and President of Samsung Research Institute, Choi Kyung-hoon, emphasized in his speech: “AI is revolutionizing people’s daily lives and work patterns, not only advancing digital transformation to new heights but also ushering in a new era of ‘AI Transformation.'”

The AI dual-arm robot technology unveiled this time is a crucial step in Samsung’s strategy for intelligent manufacturing and promoting “AI Transformation.” In the future, with continuous technological iterations, this robot is expected to be widely applied in electronic manufacturing, precision assembly, and other fields, further enhancing production efficiency and product quality, providing new momentum for the intelligent upgrade of the global manufacturing industry.
