On November 26, Qualcomm held a press conference for the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship chip.
During the event, Qualcomm clearly outlined the latest combination of the Snapdragon SoC family, which is divided into four major series: 4, 6, 7, and 8, with three products in each series.
The specifics are as follows:
Snapdragon 8 Series: Snapdragon 8S – Snapdragon 8 – Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition
Snapdragon 7 Series: Snapdragon 7S – Snapdragon 7 – Snapdragon 8+
Snapdragon 6 Series: Snapdragon 6S – Snapdragon 6 – Snapdragon 6+
Snapdragon 4 Series: Snapdragon 4S – Snapdragon 4 – Snapdragon 4+
As can be seen, the overall product planning is quite clear. For instance, the Snapdragon 8 series includes the mid-range flagship, flagship, and supreme edition.
Previously, there was confusion about why the last generation was called the Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition, while the top configuration of this generation has become the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition.
Regarding this naming, Qualcomm explained that it represents the fifth-generation product of the Snapdragon 8 series flagship mobile platform.
The reason for adding the “Supreme Edition” is that a new architecture was introduced last year, bringing unprecedented upgrades, hence incorporating this element.
In simple terms, Qualcomm’s “Supreme Edition” is more like a title representing power, while Gen 1, Gen 2…Gen 5 are considered the official iterative naming, which will continue in future iterations.
Following this logic, the next generation of the Snapdragon 8 series will have the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 and the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Supreme Edition.
