On November 24, the State Administration for Market Regulation reported that under its guidance, the Beijing Institute of Metrology and Testing Technology has made new breakthroughs in smart watch measurement technology, successfully developing a calibration device for measuring physiological parameters such as blood oxygen and heart rate in smart watches, ensuring more accurate health monitoring data through precise measurement technology.

According to reports, the high-precision human simulation robot in this smart watch calibration device can simulate blood oxygen saturation levels from 35% to 100% (with an error of ≤2%) and a heart rate range of 30 to 300 beats per minute (with an error as low as 1%), which is equivalent to a monitoring error of less than one beat per minute for healthy individuals, providing a unified measurement “scale” for the measurement of blood oxygen and heart rate parameters in smart watches.

Currently, as an important means of self-health management, more and more people are using smart watches to monitor heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep, and other indicators. This technological breakthrough in the reliability and accuracy of physiological parameter monitoring data for smart watches provides strong measurement technical support for the increasingly large smart watch market.

The State Administration for Market Regulation will organize relevant metrology technical institutions to accelerate the implementation of smart watch measurement technology achievements, establish public measurement standard devices, and corresponding national metrology technical specifications, providing strong measurement support for the accuracy and credibility of health monitoring data for smart watches and other smart wearable devices.
