For hardware engineers, it is essential not only to specialize in technology but also to assess the costs of PCBA. The cost of PCBA consists of PCB, SMT placement, and components. Below, we will discuss how SMT placement is charged.
The charges for SMT placement are not simply a fixed unit price; rather, they are a combination of various factors calculated comprehensively. Typically, they consist of the following components:
1.Engineering Fee
This fee is incurred before production and includes SMT programming, production materials, and material review, generally ranging from 800 to 2000 yuan.
2.Stencil Fee
The necessary mold for printing solder paste typically costs 200 to 300 yuan. Some products may require special stencils (nano stencils, step stencils), which can cost 400 to 500 yuan.
3.Placement Point Fee
For mass-produced products, this is the major component of SMT placement costs, charged based on the number of pads for components, generally at 0.01 yuan/ point, 0.012 yuan/ point, 0.015 yuan/ point;
Placement manufacturers do not charge per pad for components like BGA, QFN, SOP, etc. Instead, it is generally accepted to count 3 to 4 pads as one point.
4.Post-Soldering
Some products may require wire soldering and connectors, which are generally charged separately for manual soldering.
5.Testing Fee
This includes flying probe testing, fixture testing, functional testing, etc.
The pricing for SMT placement will also be influenced by order quantity, types of components (whether they are standard materials), delivery cycles, and other factors.
Example:A certain PCB has 800 pads, with no post-soldering.
In the prototype and small batch stage
Due to the small quantity, only 10 to 100 PCS are prepared as loose materials, the SMT placement factory will charge for engineering fees, stencil fees, and a small amount of placement fees, generally around 2000 yuan.
Mass Placement
For mass placement, since the stencil and SMT programming are already done, the cost will primarily be calculated based on the number of pads.
For example: 2000 pieces of PCB, each PCB has 800 pads.
The placement cost is 2000*800*0.01=16000 yuan.
