The wafer production capacity for the entire year has been basically sold out.
On November 27, in the working area of the 8-inch high-performance specialty process semiconductor production line built by Shaanxi Electronic Information Group, automated material transport equipment moved orderly on overhead tracks, while technicians carefully monitored production parameters. This production line is the first 8-inch high-performance specialty process semiconductor production line established in the northwest region of China and has officially commenced production.
This production line focuses on industrial-grade and automotive-grade power devices (such as IGBT, silicon carbide chips, etc.), which will directly serve national strategic emerging industries such as new energy vehicles, wind and solar energy storage, and artificial intelligence, effectively alleviating dependence on high-end chip imports. It will also form a complete industrial ecosystem of “materials – design – manufacturing – packaging and testing” with over 200 semiconductor companies located in Xi’an, including Yiswei and Huatian Technology, further enhancing the competitiveness of Shaanxi’s integrated circuit industry. The total investment in the production line is 4.5 billion yuan, with 3.2 billion yuan completed in the first phase, and a designed monthly production capacity of 50,000 wafers, which will expand to 100,000 wafers in the future.
It is reported that the production line also reserves space for upgrading to a 12-inch production line and achieves self-control of key equipment—over 60% of the main process equipment is domestically produced, and nearly 90% of auxiliary machines and components are domestically sourced. In addition, over 80% of the equipment is compatible with the research and production of third-generation semiconductors, laying the foundation for the layout of cutting-edge technologies such as silicon carbide.
“The production line will achieve the output of thousands of wafers in December. Currently, the company has formed business cooperation with eight listed or similarly scaled enterprises, and the wafer production capacity for the entire year has been basically sold out,” said Zhang Guowei, General Manager of Shaanxi Electronic Chip Industry Technology Co., Ltd.
Yang Ke, Deputy General Manager of Shaanxi Electronic Information Group and Chairman of Chip Industry Technology, stated that the 8-inch high-performance specialty process semiconductor production line effectively fills the gap in Shaanxi’s integrated circuit manufacturing and is expected to effectively drive the agglomeration of upstream and downstream design, packaging, and testing enterprises. Looking towards the 14th Five-Year Plan, Chip Industry Technology plans to advance the construction of domestic top large-scale wafer manufacturing specialty process platform production lines in phases, continuously breaking through innovations in high-end specialty processes.
