On November 20, news emerged that in the future envisioned by Musk, humans will no longer need to work or have money, and poverty will be completely eradicated.
According to Business Insider, on Monday local time, Musk stated at the Saudi Investment Forum alongside NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang that the development of generative AI will make money “lose its meaning”, while energy and quality, such as electricity, will still impose limitations, but “currency will eventually become insignificant.”
Musk referenced the science fiction writer Iain M. Banks’ “Culture Series,” stating that these works can help people understand a “more likely positive AI future.”
When discussing work, Musk said that future work will be “casually participated in like sports or gaming”. He also compared this future to gardening: while growing vegetables in the backyard is labor-intensive, those who enjoy it will still do it; work in the future will also become such a “doable or not” activity.
In recent months, Musk has repeatedly depicted a vision of the AI era, including eliminating poverty. According to IT Home, he mentioned earlier this month at a shareholder event that “the only way to achieve universal poverty alleviation and excellent healthcare is through the Optimus robot.”
Musk told Joe Rogan in October that when AI and robots make all work and money unnecessary, the government should distribute universal income, and it must be “high universal income”. “In a more moderate scenario, high universal income will emerge, and everyone will be able to obtain the products and services they want, but the process will be accompanied by considerable shocks.”
After discussing “money will become meaningless” at the forum, Musk also jokingly teased Jensen Huang.
Before NVIDIA announced its Q3 earnings this year, Musk reminded Huang: “NVIDIA is announcing its financial report today.” Huang then replied, “Since money is irrelevant…” Musk responded, “Cheers.” Finally, the two clinked their Acqua Panna water bottles.
