On September 12, Dongguan-based robotics company Tuosida launched the country’s first humanoid intelligent robot series based on artificial intelligence technology, aimed at industrial scenarios – the Tuoxingji series humanoid robots, adding new strength to Guangdong’s robotics industry landscape. This series includes wheeled humanoid robots, humanoid dual-arm robots, humanoid robotic arms, and other products that can autonomously complete complex reasoning and decision-making tasks in industrial scenarios such as warehousing and factories, effectively filling the current market gap for industrial-grade embodied intelligent robots.
Currently, humanoid robots are accelerating their transformation from technology validation to value realization, with Dongguan, as a manufacturing hub, becoming an important “testing ground” for this transformation. In the first half of this year, Tuosida has completed the validation and field application of dual-arm intelligent robots and embodied intelligent palletizing workstations, laying a solid foundation for subsequent hardware optimization of humanoid robot arms, upgrades to motion control systems, and end-to-end large model development.
The wheeled humanoid robot “Xiao Tuo” launched this time isthe first humanoid robot applied in the injection molding industry in China. It features a four-wheel steering design, supports 360-degree omnidirectional movement, and is equipped with the Zhipu AI large model, having completed multiple rounds of practical verification in local injection molding workshops in Dongguan. By integrating a 3D camera and AI visual inspection system, “Xiao Tuo” can real-time identify the yield of injection molded parts and autonomously complete processes such as tray loading, truly achieving full-process automation from inspection to operation, becoming an efficient assistant in industrial scenarios that “understands processes and can work”.
Entering the Humanoid Field
With the deep integration of AI large models and robotic hardware, embodied intelligence has become an important trend in the technology industry of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is predicted that by 2030, the market size of humanoid robots in China will reach 38 billion yuan, and Tuosida, relying on Dongguan’s strong manufacturing foundation, is gradually building a complete industrial chain for humanoid robots covering “hardware – algorithms – scenarios”.
At the hardware level, Tuosida has achieved independent research and development of core components for humanoid robots, thanks to Dongguan’s complete intelligent manufacturing industrial chain – multiplejointed robot bodies, robotic arms, and other key components are all customized through its subsidiary, Aifumi’s GMU400 five-axis linkage CNC machine tool, ensuring high precision performance of robot joints and torsos. Currently, Tuosida has formed a core product matrix of industrial robots, injection molding machines, and CNC machine tools, providing a full-chain solution service capability from single machines to entire factories, supporting the hardware implementation of humanoid robots.
If high-quality hardware is the “body” of humanoid robots, then the flexible “small brain” (motion control system) and developed “big brain” (AI decision-making system) are their “intelligent core.” As early as 2021, Tuosida initiated the robot control system R&D project codenamed “X,” initially aimed at bridging IT technologies such as virtualization and containerization with robotic systems; as the trend of embodied intelligence emerged, this project was upgraded to the “embodied intelligent control platform,” becoming the core hub linking AI large models and robotic hardware.
Currently, the Tuosida team, in collaboration with Guochuang Software, has jointly developed the next-generation X5 intelligent robot control platform based on the Euler operating system (openEuler). This “small brain” relies on Tuosida’s self-developed control algorithms and body structure optimizations, providing over 400 user-programmable interfaces and a 500Hz RGM real-time control interface, achieving industry-leading real-time performance, and has been mass-applied across Tuosida’s entire series of robots, and can also meet over 90% of the functional requirements for robots in the industrial field.
The key to evolving robots from “able to work” to “know how to work” lies in the iteration of the “big brain.”
Industrial scenario data faces issues such as fragmentation, uneven quality, and non-interoperable interfaces. To address this, Tuosida has deeply collaborated with leading domestic large model manufacturers such as Huawei Cloud, Zhipu, and Alibaba Cloud, based on the real scenario data of over 15,000 industrial customers they serve, to build a closed loop of “process data → AI model → execution,” continuously training the robotic skills.
In June of this year, Tuosida successfully demonstrated an industrial dual-arm embodied intelligent packing workstation based on an end-to-end AI model, capable of autonomous material recognition, optimal grasping trajectory planning, and dual-arm collaborative obstacle avoidance; its self-developed mechanical end-effector jitter suppression control technology has further improved the stability of robot movements and repeat positioning accuracy.
Facing Challenges
To accelerate the large-scale implementation of humanoid robots, Tuosida has initiated the establishment of the “Tuosida Humanoid Robot Ecological Innovation Alliance,” integrating resources from industry, academia, research, and enterprises, planning to expand wheeled humanoid robots to more industrial scenarios such as assembly and inspection, helping Dongguan enter the trillion-level market of automated intelligent equipment. Recently, the Tuosida global R&D headquarters base located in Songshan Lake, Dongguan, has officially been put into use, focusing on key technologies such as intelligent perception decision algorithms and human-machine interaction, with embodied intelligence as the core research direction; at the same time, the intelligent equipment headquarters base launched by Tuosida in May has also achieved a centralized layout of product lines including industrial robots, five-axis linkage CNC machine tools, and injection molding machines, increasing the annual maximum production capacity of industrial robots to 60,000 units, providing capacity support for industrial scale development.
Why prioritize the launch of wheeled humanoid robots?
Tuosida’s answer focuses on “cost and practicality” – current industrial scenarios, especially factories and workshops, require robots that can be efficiently implemented, and wheeled products are more aligned with the current demand in terms of cost-effectiveness and practicality.
From an industry trend perspective, Tuosida is gradually divesting non-core businesses such as intelligent energy and environmental management systems by optimizing its business structure, concentrating resources on high-end intelligent equipment and the embodied intelligence track. Data shows that since the beginning of this year, Tuosida’s industrial robot business has maintained over 20% growth for two consecutive quarters, with revenue from self-produced multi-joint robots increasing by 80.86% year-on-year, and cumulative shipments nearing 10,000 units; revenue from five-axis linkage CNC machine tools has increased by 83.74% year-on-year, with sales of about 200 units and shipments of about 140 units in the first half of the year, representing year-on-year growth of 35% and 55%, respectively, with a full order book, demonstrating the strong development momentum of Dongguan manufacturing in the field of humanoid robots.In the short term, industrial manufacturing scenarios that focus on tasks with low generalization requirements are key areas for the initial implementation of embodied intelligence; in the long term, as massive embodied data from robots accumulates and computing power technology advances, robotic capabilities will gradually unlock more scenarios in services, households, and medical rehabilitation.
