Will the next stop for the HarmonyOS ecosystem be a mini host?

With the explosion of remote work and smart home demands, the global mini host market is expected to grow at an annual rate of over 20% by 2025. Currently, Huawei’s Kunpeng chip and HarmonyOS present no technical barriers to producing a HarmonyOS mini computer.

From a technical feasibility standpoint, the probability of Huawei launching a HarmonyOS mini computer is quite high. The desktop motherboard for the Huawei Kunpeng 920 processor is already commercially available. This 4-core 2.6GHz chip focuses on low power consumption and high performance, fully meeting the hardware requirements for mini hosts. More importantly, Huawei has accumulated five years of R&D experience in the HarmonyOS computer field, with over 10,000 engineers dedicated to developing a system not just for smartphones and tablets. While other manufacturers are still competing on hardware specifications, Huawei can differentiate itself through its multi-device collaboration and “distributed capabilities”.

If it is indeed launched, the configuration may follow a practical approach of “good enough”. Referring to Huawei’s existing product line, the processor will likely be the Kunpeng 920 version, starting with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, retaining practical interfaces like HDMI and USB-C. The system will likely come pre-installed with HarmonyOS 5.0, focusing on enhancing connectivity with smartphones and tablets—imagine using your phone’s data to connect the computer to the internet or directly using a tablet as a secondary screen; this is the essence of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

The pricing strategy may bring surprises. Currently, Huawei’s cheapest HarmonyOS device is the Hi Enjoy phone priced at 849 yuan, while Xiaomi’s mini host is priced around 3000 yuan, and Apple’s mini host is about 3500 yuan. Considering market competition and the need for ecosystem promotion, if the HarmonyOS mini computer is priced below 3000 yuan, it could potentially drop to under 2500 yuan after national subsidies. This price, while higher than entry-level smartphones, could make it the cheapest HarmonyOS computer device, serving as an entry-level light office device.

It can fill the gap in the product line and lower the barrier for users to enter the HarmonyOS ecosystem. For users looking to experience multi-device collaboration, this mini host may become the most cost-effective choice.
