On November 14, in the Shenyang Economic and Technological Development Zone on 26th Road, high-end precision equipment is operating efficiently in the Liaoning Hanjing Semiconductor Industrial Base, which has just been put into production for one month. Li Qingjia, the deputy general manager of Liaoning Hanjing Semiconductor Materials Co., Ltd., stated: “The market demand is urgent, and during the project construction period, customers have been coming to negotiate. Currently, orders for silicon carbide products are already full for next year, and orders for quartz products have been received until June next year.”
Why are the new products from the new factory so in demand? In fact, since the construction began in March last year, the industrial base has attracted significant attention and expectations from the industry.
Liaoning Hanjing Semiconductor is the first domestic manufacturer of silicon carbide consumables and a leading supplier in the domestic quartz products industry. Its independently developed silicon carbide and quartz products for semiconductor equipment have passed testing and certification on the client side, achieving a domestic breakthrough in technology and filling a gap in the domestic industry. The newly built industrial base includes two high-end production lines, namely the first domestic ultra-pure quartz production line for advanced semiconductor processes below 10 nanometers and the first domestic production line for semiconductor silicon carbide components.
The products produced by these two production lines address the issues of supply chain bottlenecks in China’s semiconductor industry and will greatly enhance the domestic supply capacity of high-end silicon carbide and quartz components. For example, in the case of semiconductor silicon carbide components, currently, there are only three companies globally producing similar products, with supply cycles typically ranging from 2 to 3 years, leaving downstream users often facing difficulties in procurement or even being unable to procure at all. After the industrial base is put into production, the supply cycle for such products is expected to be shortened to less than one year.
Looking at quartz components, high-purity quartz and its products are integral to the entire semiconductor production process and are core elements that ensure product quality and performance stability. Li Qingjia said: “Our base is currently the largest single quartz processing plant in the world, with the highest precision production line for semiconductor quartz globally. Many leading chip companies will use our products, contributing to enhancing the supply capacity of the high-end market and ensuring national industrial security.”
Essential for safety and urgently needed in the market, relevant departments at the provincial, municipal, and district levels are working together to ensure the high-quality and efficient construction of this key project. Covering an area of 96,000 square meters and with a planned construction area of 120,000 square meters, the industrial base achieved the topping out of all main factory buildings just six months after construction began. Zhao Yang, the deputy general manager of Liaoning Hanjing Semiconductor, said: “This created conditions for internal construction to commence in the winter of the same year, saving time. The production started in October this year, at least two months ahead of schedule.”
“Currently, the production lines are running at full capacity, and two centralized control centers are also in operation simultaneously. Not only the production equipment in the workshop but also the entire factory’s water, electricity, and gas supply systems are all interconnected, achieving digital and intelligent control, significantly improving production and operational efficiency,” Li Qingjia told reporters. “Once the industrial base reaches full production capacity, it can achieve an annual output value of approximately 1.2 billion yuan.”
