IU5096T is a boost charging management IC for dual lithium batteries compatible with TYPE-C interface, suitable for devices such as toys, walkie-talkies, and Bluetooth speakers. It comes in a DFN2X2_8L package, operates at a voltage of 3.6~6V, with a rated temperature range of -40~85℃, and can withstand input and BAT terminal voltages of up to 30V. It integrates a 30V OVP function, making it compatible with various adapters, and boasts outstanding reliability.
Core performance is excellent: with a 5V input, it adopts a CC/CV charging mode, and the maximum charging current of 1.5A can be adjusted via an external resistor connected to the ICHG pin; the switching frequency is 500KHz, with a conversion efficiency of up to 90%. The typical full charge voltage is 8.4V, supporting three-stage charging: trickle, constant current, and constant voltage, with a termination charging current of 130mA. It automatically resumes charging once the battery voltage drops to the restart threshold.
Flexible and practical function configuration: the NTC pin doubles as an enable function; it enables charging when floating and disables it at zero level. The NTC function detects temperature through an external thermistor, stopping charging at low temperature (1.43V) and high temperature (0.38V). It features an input current adaptive loop that automatically adjusts the charging current to avoid overloading the adapter; when the chip temperature reaches 120℃, it starts to adjust, and thermal protection is triggered at 150℃ with a 20℃ hysteresis. The STAT pin connects to an LED to indicate status: it stays on during charging, turns off when fully charged, and blinks at 1.6Hz during abnormal conditions.
Comprehensive protection mechanisms: it includes input over-voltage protection (6V threshold), BAT terminal over-voltage protection (9.2V), battery short-circuit protection (2.2V threshold), and charging timeout protection (9.5 hours in TC stage, 15.5 hours in CC/CV stage), ensuring safe charging.
PCB layout considerations: the chip’s bottom heat sink must connect to the PCB heat dissipation area; use a 4.7uH inductor with a saturation current of over 5A, and keep the traces short and thick for the Schottky diode; place the surface mount capacitors close to the chip pins, and optimize the LX traces to improve EMI. The overall integration minimizes power MOS and peripheral components, resulting in a compact and cost-effective solution for efficient and safe boost charging of dual lithium battery devices.
