As a global leader in the automotive chip sector, Infineon continues to lead with its comprehensive product layout and technological advantages. Data from 2024 shows that it ranks first globally in three major fields: automotive MCUs (32%), automotive power devices (29.2%), and automotive NOR Flash ICs, while holding the second position in the sensor field, achieving a total market share of 13.5% in the global automotive chip market, maintaining its industry-leading position since 2019. Infineon’s six major product lines, including low-voltage power devices and microcontrollers, provide system-level support across various automotive domains.

Localization Strategy: Accelerating Implementation of “In China, for China”

In response to the rise of the Chinese new energy vehicle industry, Infineon is implementing the “In China, for China” strategy, incorporating key automotive semiconductor technologies into its localization plan. On the production side, it relies on its own factory in Wuxi and deepens cooperation with local upstream and downstream partners; on the product side, it focuses on the demands of the Chinese market, with local production of the 28nm process AURIX™ TC4x series MCUs, QDPAK/TO247 packaged high-voltage power devices, and multiple sensors already initiated. Some products have achieved mass production, and more locally produced products are expected to be launched by 2027, with its localization plan achieving full coverage of automotive applications and introducing advanced 28nm processes.

In August 2025, Infineon completed the acquisition of Marvell’s automotive Ethernet business, combining its MCU advantages to build a more complete automotive network architecture while increasing investment in the RISC-V ecosystem to strengthen local service capabilities.

Technological Innovation: Breakthroughs in RISC-V MCU and Radar Dual Tracks

In the automotive MCU field, Infineon’s AURIX™ series has shipped over 1 billion units, with the TC2x, TC3x, and TC4x series becoming the preferred choice for core applications such as domain controllers. To adapt to the trend of software-defined vehicles, Infineon is fully promoting the development of RISC-V architecture MCUs, whose open-source characteristics, reduced instruction set, and modular advantages can meet the needs of all automotive scenarios. The next-generation MCU virtual prototype based on RISC-V is already in place, collaborating with local partners to build the ecosystem.

In the advanced intelligent driving field, Infineon focuses on upgrading millimeter-wave radar, launching an eight-transmit and eight-receive solution to meet new national standards: one is an edge architecture solution combining the CTRX8188F RF front-end with the AURIX™ TC45 MCU; the other is a centralized architecture solution where radar data goes directly to the domain controller, which, combined with AI algorithms, can achieve longer detection distances and stronger resolution capabilities. Both technical routes have been laid out and are about to enter mass production.

Deepening in China for Thirty Years: Ecological Co-construction and Future Layout

Infineon adheres to the concept of “ecology first” by supporting university student intelligent vehicle competitions, conducting a 22-year university program, and deepening cooperation with local enterprises to build “innovation application centers”, defining over ten “mentor-level customers”, becoming the only automotive semiconductor manufacturer to join the Chinese intelligent driving partner system, and reaching over ten cooperation agreements.

In emerging fields, Infineon has launched dedicated solutions for eVTOL (flying cars), covering core systems such as main drive and flight control, which can meet semiconductor needs of nearly 5000 euros per unit.

Since entering China in 1995, Infineon has witnessed and contributed to the rise of the Chinese electronics industry. In the fiscal year 2025, the Greater China region contributed 38% of its global revenue, becoming the largest regional market; the automotive business accounts for 50% of the company’s total revenue, with the support of the Chinese market solidifying its leading position. As of the fiscal year 2024, Infineon has delivered over 9.4 billion automotive electronic components, serving 30,000 customers, achieving a win-win situation with the Chinese automotive market, which produces and sells over 30 million vehicles annually.
