IK iLoud Sub: The First Calibrated Bluetooth Subwoofer with Three Drivers

👇 In-depth audio equipment reviews, stay tuned!

The primary target of “room calibration” is the low frequencies.

If the monitoring manufacturer does not have a calibratable subwoofer, the entire calibration system is incomplete. Therefore, while IK and ADAM have calibrated speakers, they have always been limited to 2.0 small systems and cannot handle 2.1, surround sound, and immersive audio production, missing out on opportunities in the film industry.

However, IK has finally crossed this hurdle.

First, let’s take a look at the official video:

Factory Included ARC Calibration Microphone

Can be calibrated using ARC X software

You are not mistaken, the iLoud Sub

does indeed have three drivers

However, the two on the sides are “passive drivers”

There is only 1 active driver

Class D Power 160Wrms

Can reach down to 25Hz@-6dB

One challenge is transportation; it feels like you might always press on the drivers, but the iLoud Sub is small and lightweight, so it should be carried from the bottom.

The ideal pairing for the iLoud Sub is, of course, its own iLoud series

But due to the adjustable crossover point

The official says it also supports other brands

And it even outperformed the Genelec 8000, Kali LP-UNF, and ADAM T series…

It has consumer RCA and professional XLR inputs

The USB interface is used for software control

USB can also decode directly

Another key feature is Bluetooth input

The official did not specify the Bluetooth version; previously, the iLoud MM announced a 155ms Bluetooth latency, which suggests it is likely a version prior to Bluetooth 5.3. Currently, the Bluetooth latency has not been disclosed, so it is probably still a version before Bluetooth 5.3.

iLoud Sub has not disclosed some professional parameters…

Such as input level (which determines what sound cards it can connect to)

THD affecting low-frequency clarity

But this is not important… the key is that it is affordable

To set up a 7.1.4 immersive audio system with it

Only €3600 Euros

This is the cheapest solution that can achieve 【factory DSP sound calibration】… more stable and lower latency than third-party calibration, and half the price of the previous cheapest Genelec 8320 + 7350 solution.

Of course, if everyone does not need to do multichannel

And just wants to add some low frequencies to their desktop system

Currently, there are not many 6.5-inch subwoofers in the industry

A 6.5-inch subwoofer is more compatible with the iLoud MM and MTM, but pairing it with a 5-inch Precision 5 would be a bit awkward…

IK is expected to release an 8-inch subwoofer as well
