On September 24 at 15:56, the sixth orbital plane of the Geely Constellation was successfully launched in a single rocket with 12 satellites near the coastal waters of Rizhao, Shandong. All satellites entered orbit smoothly and are functioning normally. With this, the Phase One networking task of the Geely Constellation has been successfully completed, marking the establishment of China’s first low-orbit satellite IoT constellation capable of large-scale applications. For the marine fisheries industry, which has long relied on natural conditions and lagging communication methods, this breakthrough signifies a critical shift from “fishing by the weather” to “data-driven operations.”

Global Coverage: Ending Communication Blind Spots in Fisheries

The operational areas of marine fisheries are extensive, especially in offshore waters, which have long faced the challenge of insufficient communication signal coverage. The Geely Constellation effectively addresses this pain point with its global coverage satellite IoT communication capabilities. According to data from Time-Space Path, the constellation system has achieved real-time communication coverage for any location on the Earth’s surface, except for the polar regions, with all satellites achieving 100% reliability in orbit and network reliability. Based on this stable and extensive communication support, fishing vessels operating in deep waters can achieve all-weather, uninterrupted data transmission. Location information can be transmitted in real-time to fishery management departments, forming a complete operational trajectory map; data on species, quantities, and operational coordinates can be reported promptly, providing accurate bases for fishery resource assessment. Additionally, the constellation system supports various types of message transmission, including text messages, voice messages, and images, with a single communication capacity of 1900 Bytes, fully meeting the diverse communication needs in fishery production, safety, and management.

Safety Upgrade: From Passive Rescue to Active Warning

Fishery safety has always been a core challenge for the industry’s development. The “2024 National Fishery Economic Statistical Bulletin” shows that in 2024 alone, direct economic losses due to fishery disasters reached 15.024 billion yuan. In the face of such risks, stable and reliable communication support has become key to enhancing safety in marine operations.

Geely Constellation Phase One Network Completion: Satellite IoT Empowers Smart Upgrades in Marine FisheriesThe Geely Constellation, with its strong anti-jamming and anti-interception capabilities, provides high security and stability for fishery communications. The constellation payload and terminals are equipped with a fully self-developed adaptive anti-jamming algorithm, boasting an ultra-strong anti-jamming capability of 50dB, enabling stable operation in complex electromagnetic environments, excellent diffraction performance of operational frequencies, and low link loss, ensuring continuity and reliability of communication. In practical applications, fishing vessels equipped with satellite IoT terminals can trigger alarms instantly in emergencies, sending precise location information directly to rescue centers. Rescue departments can achieve rapid positioning and nearby dispatch, forming a collaborative rescue mechanism with minute-level response times, significantly shortening rescue times. Additionally, the system can push real-time weather warning information for typhoons and high waves, helping fishing vessels to proactively avoid risks, transforming passive responses into active defenses.

Industry Transformation: Building a Modernized Fishery Ecosystem

The application of satellite IoT not only enhances fishery safety levels but also drives a shift in production models from traditional experience-based to modern data-driven approaches. It is reported that Time-Space Path has successfully completed commercial verification tests for the “Satellite + Marine Fisheries” application scenario, with a success rate close to 100%. Meanwhile, China’s marine fisheries are accelerating their modernization process, primarily reflected in the continuous optimization of breeding and capture structures, and the promotion of consumption upgrades through aquaculture and deep-sea farming. For example, through satellite IoT terminals, fishing vessels can transmit real-time data on captured species, quantities, and operational locations to management platforms, providing accurate bases for fishery resource management. Relevant departments can scientifically formulate catch quotas based on this data, promoting the sustainable use of fishery resources. Furthermore, satellite IoT technology can achieve traceability across the entire chain from capture, transportation to sales, effectively ensuring the quality and safety of aquatic products. Notably, in 2024, Time-Space Path completed its first overseas commercial deployment test in Oman, achieving a communication success rate of 99.15% and network availability exceeding 99.97%, which will provide satellite communication services to tens of thousands of local fishing vessels. It is foreseeable that as more fishing vessels connect to satellite IoT, marine fisheries will gradually achieve a safe, efficient, and sustainable modernization transformation, which not only promotes industrial upgrades but also concerns the livelihoods and safety of millions of fishermen worldwide. The satellite IoT is quietly becoming a key bridge connecting millennia of fisheries with a digital future.
