Differences Between Multi-Line Control and Bus Control

Bus control, multi-line control, and dedicated line control will be explained here.

Many exam candidates do not understand what multi-line control is, what bus control is, and what dedicated line control is. Without understanding the wiring methods, it is difficult to answer questions correctly. Today, we will elaborate on these concepts.

1. Bus Control

As the name suggests, bus control involves setting up many devices on a single bus circuit. As shown in the figure below, all smoke exhaust outlets in the same smoke control zone can be controlled by a single bus control line. A button on the bus control panel can simultaneously control the action of all smoke exhaust outlets. There are two indicator lights: a start indicator and a feedback indicator.

Main Devices for Bus Control:

1. Smoke and exhaust system: opening of air supply outlets, electric smoke curtains, smoke exhaust outlets, smoke windows, and smoke exhaust valves;

2. Fire shutters: lowering of fire shutters set up in non-evacuation passages;

3. Fire alarm and emergency broadcast system: manual control of the corresponding area, broadcasting emergency announcements.

2. Multi-Line Control and Dedicated Line Control

Multi-line control refers to the fact that a control circuit connects only one device and does not share the circuit with other devices. Hence, multi-line control and dedicated line control mean the same thing. The connection method is shown below:

Main Devices for Multi-Line Control:

1. Smoke and exhaust system: start and stop buttons for smoke and exhaust fans;

2. Automatic sprinkler system: start and stop of the sprinkler fire pump;

Start and stop of the electric valves in the pre-action valve group;

Start and stop of the electric valves before the quick exhaust valve inlet;

Start and stop of the rain curtain valve group (including water curtain system rain curtain valve).

3. Fire hydrant system: start and stop of the fire hydrant pump.
