Today is Saturday, and due to some matters back home, my son’s study plan has been disrupted.
Every weekend, as parents, we always have various matters to attend to, which inevitably affects my son’s C++ learning and math study plans to some extent.
This is unavoidable in reality.
To ensure that my son’s learning progress does not lag too much, I have arranged for him to study during the week at night.
If he only relies on weekend time for studying, it will largely be affected by parental chores. If he doesn’t study during the week and only studies on weekends, any disruption to his weekend time will delay his C++ learning. This is quite pressing for him, as he is already in the sixth grade and needs to achieve some results in next year’s CSP.
Today, he did not study at all during the day and only returned to Changsha after 8 PM.
My son is quite self-motivated; he urged me to turn on the computer so he could quickly watch his math online course and then practice problems on the C++ problem-solving website.
Yesterday, I felt that my son’s math learning progress was slow, and he struggled with many math concepts in the advanced group problems. So, I communicated with him about speeding up his math learning progress.
He did not object, probably because he also felt that many of the slightly difficult problems involve some math knowledge, with some concepts reaching high school level. He couldn’t understand many of the problems.
I believe my son has developed a certain coding ability, although he still has a lot of room for improvement in handling complexity and using algorithms; however, he is more limited by gaps in his math knowledge. He cannot understand the mathematical symbols and concepts in the problems, which is the biggest obstacle for him in solving them.
No wonder, C++ learning must precede math learning. If he can’t understand the problems, there’s no way to solve them.
For his math studies, I have set a plan for him to complete all junior high school math by this semester.
Currently, he has only reached the second half of the seventh grade, and there is still much to learn.
Today, I researched the Luogu website and compared it with the problem-solving site my son is currently using, finding that Luogu is indeed more powerful.
Seeing that Luogu also has online competitions, my idea of using competitions for practice has not changed, so I signed him up for a competition next week.
One advantage of solving problems on Luogu is that there are solutions available, which provides more problem-solving ideas for children who have not participated in offline training, greatly enhancing their thinking skills.
Additionally, I found that the problem sets on Luogu contain some challenging problems, which directly eliminates my son’s inclination to solve easy problems. By tackling slightly more difficult problems, he can quickly improve his level.
In the future, I will encourage my son to increase his problem-solving efforts on Luogu, but I also need to guard against him just looking at the solutions when solving problems.
