Introduction to PMOD Interface on Xilinx FPGA

The Pmod interface standard was established by Xilinx’s third-party partner Digilent, and apart from the commonly seen FMC expansion interface, Pmod interface applications are becoming increasingly widespread. Due to the flexibility of the FPGA I/O interface, the Pmod interface is particularly suitable for connecting FPGA development boards with peripherals. Additionally, Digilent has introduced various pin arrangements to facilitate connections with specific microcontrollers.

1. Connector Standards

The Pmod interface is divided into HOST and Peripheral types, categorized into 6-pin, 8-pin, and 12-pin types, as detailed in the “Digilent Pmod Interface Specification Revision: November 20, 2011“.
