2017.11.15 Wednesday Overcast in Shenzhen
Introduction: Clueless, I began learning about hardware circuit design for smartphones and tablets…
After entering the robotics industry, I slowly started to get in touch with platforms such as: Android development platform (Youjian based on Samsung Exynos6818 development board), TK1 development platform, Firefly-RK3399 platform, iFLYTEK voice development kit, etc. Names like AllWinner and Rockchip appeared in front of me.
On one hand, due to my curiosity, eagerness to learn, fear of ignorance, and the need for my work and future development, I needed to understand this area; on the other hand, whenever my software colleagues asked related questions, I felt helpless for not being able to provide clear answers, which further motivated me to learn and understand this knowledge; also, I wanted to learn about PCB layout for tablets to satisfy my desires

It was also a natural progression that I learned about RK3399. The company purchased the Firefly-RK3399 development board, and the Firefly-RK3399 open-source materials were relatively complete (Actually, looking back now on 2017.12.9, it was because I couldn’t find much information at the time; the materials provided by the chip manufacturer were the most comprehensive

), so I directly chose this platform and started my learning journey!
I didn’t have a clear goal, direction, or method; I just thought about redrawing the Firefly open-source hardware schematic to learn its hardware circuit design and further familiarize myself with the use of OrCAD; then, I would understand its peripherals and various interface circuits; finally, I would learn PCB layout. This might be my current expectation.

RK3399 is a new generation super expandable flagship chip released by Rockchip on April 14, 2016, at 3 PM in Hong Kong, China, aimed at global media, core channels, and solution partners. This chip features high performance and high expandable applications. It is currently the most powerful chip in Rockchip’s product line, with hardware specifications leading the industry.

I adopted a learning method of first skimming through the material and then going back to analyze it in detail, so I have the current notes format: the previous part was written on 2017.11.15, and now it is 2017.12.9; this format will often appear in future Firefly-RK3399 hardware learning notes (xxx).
Actually, at that time, I didn’t write one piece after another due to the following considerations:
1. Just entering an unfamiliar field, there are too many unknowns, and I don’t know if what I write is correct, fearing I would make too many mistakes;
2. To be honest, I didn’t know if I could stick with it;
3. At that time, I thought that since I didn’t understand at the beginning, I would first go through it once to have an overall understanding; if I could persist, I would definitely have a new understanding, then go back to delve deeper, and while deepening, check the initial learning notes, correct them, and update them in sync, which would be better.
For the above reasons, I initiated my previous learning plan.
Intermittently, while working and learning, it has been almost a month now, and looking back, I have managed to stick with it! To be honest, in this nearly month-long period, I can’t say I have made great progress in knowledge and theory; but I can say that I have persisted and gained the joy of perseverance: having a goal every period and striving towards that goal is a very happy thing! That is my greatest harvest! (I will dig a pit here, I have another plan for 2018, and I believe it will meet everyone on time)
So far, I have initially completed the drawing and learning of the schematic, so starting today, I will go back and continue to deepen my learning with more materials, and I will update my learning notes periodically; if you find any inaccuracies while checking, please correct me. Thank you!
