Renesas Electronics Automotive MCU Market Director Zhu Xiaofeng
As the trend of software-defined vehicles and electrification deeply integrates, automotive electronic and electrical architectures are evolving from distributed to centralized integration. In this process, high computing power, low power consumption, and functional safety have become core requirements. The Renesas RH850/U2x series MCUs and R-Car SoC solutions integrate Ethernet TSN, CAN-XL, and other interfaces, support ISO26262 ASIL-D safety level, with a software reuse rate of 95%, suitable for domain controller scenarios, helping automotive companies shorten development cycles. For intelligent and energy-efficient balance, the product layout based on 28nm technology can enhance computing power while optimizing power consumption, balancing performance and cost. Zhu Xiaofeng stated that future automotive-grade semiconductors will evolve towards an ecosystem of “hardware standardization and software modularization.” Renesas will continue to empower the global automotive intelligence transformation and promote sustainable development in the automotive industry through technological innovation and open collaboration.
International Motor Drive Technology Forum
Sensorless FOC Motor Solutions Across All Speed Ranges
The 2025 International Motor Drive Technology Forum was hosted by Techsugar and Munich Exhibition (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. Renesas Embedded Processor Division Senior Manager Liu Tao delivered a keynote speech on “Sensorless FOC Motor Solutions Across All Speed Ranges,” introducing Renesas’s rich products and solutions in the field of motor control.

Renesas Embedded Processor Division Senior Manager Liu Tao
Liu Tao first introduced Renesas’s diverse motor MCU product line, covering RL78, RA, RX, RISC-V, and other product families. These MCU products have different operating frequencies, core architectures, and storage capacities, meeting the needs of various application scenarios. Among them, the RA6T2, as a star product, adopts a 40nm high-performance process, equipped with a Cortex M33 core with FPU, achieving a high performance of 962.4 CoreMark @ 240MHz, supporting various communication interfaces, analog peripherals, and system functions, and also features functional safety and information security characteristics. In the speech, Liu Tao detailed Renesas’s sensorless FOC motor solution across all speed ranges. This solution aims to help customers easily develop sensorless control functions for IPM motors across all speed ranges, maximizing torque performance. It estimates motor position using a pulse voltage injection method during startup/low speed, achieving smooth motor drive from startup to high speed within a ±10° position estimation error, reducing the risk of losing steps.
