“Look, the robot is dancing!” On November 20, at Wen Yiduo Primary School in Xishui County, Hubei Province, children cheered and gasped in amazement. The first “Qingmei AI Classroom” in Hubei Province, built with donations from the Lenovo Public Welfare Foundation and Lenovo Shanghai Research Institute, was officially inaugurated. The Lenovo volunteer team brought AI robots, robotic dogs, and other interesting technological teaching aids into the campus, creating a vivid science popularization event that bridges rural children to cutting-edge technology.
This warm public welfare action originated from the “Qingmei Research Study” activity during this summer. Ai Tingting, a technology teacher at Wen Yiduo Primary School, participated in the study in Beijing as a “Qingmei Teacher.” After closely interacting with Lenovo Group’s cutting-edge technology and the high-quality educational philosophy of Tsinghua University Affiliated High School, her idea of establishing an AI classroom for rural children became increasingly firm. After three months of precise needs assessment, program optimization, and material preparation, the Lenovo volunteer team finally delivered teaching equipment such as AI robots to the campus, filling the hardware gap in the school’s science and technology education, allowing rural students to also access cutting-edge technology.

On the day of the event, the Lenovo volunteer team of five immediately got to work upon arriving at the campus. Technical volunteers squatted in the corners of classrooms, meticulously debugging science popularization equipment and robot demonstration props, repeatedly checking parameters to ensure the demonstration was exciting and interesting; lecturer volunteers communicated with school teachers about the details of the science popularization class, understanding students’ cognitive characteristics to prepare adequately for the event.

Preparation Before the Event

In the hometown of Mr. Wen Yiduo, this public welfare action adds a weight of spiritual inheritance. “We not only want to sow the seeds of technology in rural campuses but also to protect this seed with long-term companionship, allowing it to take root and sprout.” At the donation ceremony, Lenovo volunteer representative Huang Shuting shared the original intention of the “Qingmei Project” and specifically mentioned Mr. Wen Yiduo’s pragmatic spirit of “doing before speaking,” just as technological creation originates from solid actions, the deep cultivation of rural science and technology education also requires step-by-step efforts.
Principal Feng Jianjun of Wen Yiduo Primary School expressed sincere gratitude for Lenovo’s support in his speech and detailed the school’s plans to carry out science and technology education based on the “Qingmei AI Classroom.” When the school secretary Xia Xiaoshi received the plaque of the “Qingmei AI Classroom” from the volunteers, thunderous applause erupted from the audience, witnessing a new starting point for rural science and technology education at the school.

After the ceremony, two AI robot science popularization classes were held in succession. Volunteer lecturers explained the basic principles of robots in simple and understandable language, cleverly incorporating fun interactions. When students simulated operations to intuitively understand the logic behind robots performing actions such as moving forward, turning, and waving, gasps of amazement filled the classroom. Subsequently, during the practical demonstration on the playground, the enthusiasm of the children was ignited. Volunteer engineers demonstrated the robot’s task execution functions on-site, and every time they invited students to try, countless small hands shot up, creating the warmest scene in science education.

“The volunteers brought not only equipment but also ideas and confidence for the implementation of science and technology education.” Teacher Ai Tingting, who participated in the entire event, was deeply moved. Having been deeply involved in rural science education for many years, she has always insisted on driving students’ exploration through interest, and the establishment of this AI classroom has provided a more solid support for her science and technology teaching philosophy. Previously, her “Nine-Hole Lotus” technology practice activity won first prize and a special award at the 2025 National Youth Science Education Innovation Achievement Competition, becoming the only rural teacher in Hubei Province to receive this honor—this news also greatly encouraged the volunteers present.

With a heart towards technology, bravely exploring the unknown,
Acting with determination, building dreams for the future.
With childlike imagination, like a wise thinker,
Though the road ahead is rugged, we remain true to our original intention.
With science as wings, walking alongside imagination,
Chasing the light, not disappointing love and distance.
The essence of education is not to fill a bucket with water, but to ignite a fire. The Lenovo volunteer team, through public welfare actions, has sent the spark of technology into rural campuses, igniting children’s curiosity and creativity, allowing every child to shine uniquely in hands-on exploration. In the future, we look forward to more social forces joining hands with rural schools and teachers, letting the spring breeze of science and technology education blow through more rural campuses, allowing every rural child’s technological dreams to take root and bear fruit.

Qingmei Project
Initiated by the Lenovo Public Welfare Foundation in collaboration with Lenovo Group and other organizations, it aims to discover and support young teachers who silently dedicate themselves to rural education (the “Qingmei”). By providing smart educational facilities and public welfare funds, transforming characteristic classrooms, building teacher communities for mutual learning and creation, and organizing one-on-one volunteer companionship, a continuous public welfare connection is established with the “Qingmei” and schools, assisting in the improvement and progress of digital education in rural schools, accompanying the “Qingmei” to move forward together, and creating more growth opportunities for rural children.
