Domestic ‘Nervous System’ for Robots: Shandong’s Leading Brands in the Industry Chain

Qilu Network · Lightning News, September 15 The operating system, as the core control software, is referred to as the “nervous system” of robots, directly affecting their performance, development efficiency, and safety. Shandong Alexander Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., located in Jinan, has long been dedicated to the research and development of domestic robot operating systems, filling the gap in the localization of robot operating systems.

Shandong is an important robot manufacturing base in northern China, with over 200 upstream and downstream enterprises in the robotics sector. In 2024, it is expected to achieve nearly 30 billion yuan in revenue, with a compound annual growth rate exceeding 15% over the past three years, making breakthroughs in key areas such as artificial intelligence algorithms, high-precision reducers, and intelligent control. A reporter visited Alexander Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. for an on-site investigation. “He is Jumang, the wood god in the ‘Shan Hai Jing’, responsible for the growth of all things. And it, also called Jumang, is currently the only domestic robot operating system that has achieved large-scale implementation across multiple industries. Just like the mythical wood god nurturing all things, as a foundational system, it supports the intelligent upgrade of various industries. This construction spraying robot can spray 500 square meters in one hour, four times more efficient than traditional methods, with navigation accuracy reaching plus or minus five millimeters.”

Tests have shown that this robot can save over 40% of raw materials during operation and can adapt to various spraying scenarios. From research and development to prototype rollout, it took only one year, a speed far exceeding expectations. Fang Yong, general manager and chief engineer of Jinan Yijian Group Green Building Industry Co., Ltd., told reporters: “If we were to develop this (robot) ourselves, it might take us longer, 3 to 5 years. We conducted secondary development on the Jumang ROS system to adapt it to our robotic arms, nozzles, and mobility. This system allows for organic integration and collaboration. Moreover, its transmission protocol is more efficient and faster.”

For a long time, a large number of robot R&D efforts in China have relied on the American ROS system. Although ROS is the mainstream open-source framework internationally, it has limitations in real-time performance, safety, and customization when dealing with high-demand industrial scenarios, often requiring developers to invest significant effort in low-level optimization and functional expansion. How to create a universal robot operating system? Alexander Intelligent Technology has embarked on a path of independent research and development.

Li Jianqiang, executive dean of the research institute at Shandong Alexander Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters: “Including robotic arms and humanoid robots, we have developed a variety of industrial-grade component libraries during the development process, which are mature and open to developers, greatly saving development time.” Relying on a mature component library and open-source ecosystem, the Jumang system has complete source code autonomy and has achieved a series of technological breakthroughs. The company focuses on a midstream operating system technology platform, continuously extending downstream, integrating the full chain capabilities of “operating system – hardware – scenario solutions” to provide foundational support for digital upgrades across multiple industries.

Meng Guanghui, executive president of Shandong Alexander Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters: “We have served more than ten fiberglass manufacturing enterprises, transitioning from the fiberglass industry to the gold sector, applying related solutions in bulk. Currently, we have established extensive cooperation with the aquaculture, agriculture, construction, and traditional industrial manufacturing sectors, including firefighting inspection robots.”

The rapid development of the enterprise is inseparable from industrial policies and ecosystem cultivation. In 2024, the robot industry scale in Jinan is expected to account for over 50% of the province, with the local government establishing a robot industry office and launching special support policies. Zhang Donghua, head of the Jinan Robot Industry Development Office, told reporters: “We have set up a special fund of 100 million yuan and a 5 billion yuan investment fund, and established a robot industry empowerment alliance and industrial development alliance, planning to build the Shandong (Jinan) Embodied Intelligence Port.”

Under precise policy empowerment, Alexander Intelligent Technology has received comprehensive support from technology R&D to scene implementation, leading projects for the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and has established cooperation with Shandong Gold, Xinhua Medical, and others, currently building an ecosystem with over 200 certified developers. Zhou Jun, chairman of Shandong Alexander Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., told reporters: “We aim to make our system more real-time; currently, it is at one millisecond, and we strive to achieve 500 microseconds or even lower. We aim to connect the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain, making the development alliance a specialized system that adapts to our diverse robotic applications, integrating a trillion-level robot industry.”

Reporter’s Note

From high-precision robotic arms to intelligent medical robots, from industrial production lines to service applications, Jumang is taking root and growing in real scenarios. It is not just a technology platform but connects the entire industrial chain from hardware manufacturing, software development to application scenarios, making robot development more efficient and collaborative. It belongs to Alexander Intelligent Technology and to every developer dedicated to the robotics industry.
