On March 10, a demonstration event showcasing the application results of the Pepper robot was held at Hangzhou Foreign Languages School. The Chief Superintendent of the Provincial Department of Education, Shu Peidong, attended the event and delivered a speech, while Masayuki Inoue, Director and Senior Executive Vice President of SoftBank Robotics Group, addressed the audience via video.
It was reported that in 2019, Zhejiang launched the “AI + Robotics” Future Talent Cultivation Program, with the Pepper robot being introduced to nearly 300 primary, secondary, and higher education institutions in the province, assisting schools in exploring AI-based educational reforms.
Shu Peidong fully affirmed the effectiveness of the Pepper robot’s application in the education sector of the province. He stated that the Pepper robot has been widely used in programming education, school-based courses, and extracurricular activities across various educational institutions, creating an intelligent learning environment that enhances the information literacy of teachers and students, builds a new ecosystem for smart campuses, and cultivates students’ innovative abilities. He hopes that participating schools will continue to promote the integration of the Pepper robot with educational practices, develop a series of effective teaching applications, and strive to create more teaching outcomes that are distinctly recognizable as Zhejiang’s contributions, thereby playing a positive role in cultivating innovative talents in artificial intelligence for the province.
Masayuki Inoue expressed that countries around the world are exploring the integration of artificial intelligence with education, and he is pleased to see that teachers and students in Zhejiang schools are actively using the Pepper robot for learning and achieving good results. SoftBank Robotics will steadfastly continue on this path and actively assume social responsibility.
The highlight of the event was a course demonstration presented by the Pepper robot from SoftBank Robotics. Pepper perfectly collaborated with the participating schools to recreate classroom scenes for the attendees. Student representatives directly operated Pepper using relevant programming tools, creating a lively and engaging classroom atmosphere.
During this Pepper robot application results demonstration event, three outstanding regions, twelve excellent schools, twenty-four exemplary course cases, and forty student works were recognized. Hangzhou Foreign Languages School and the Green City Yuhua Qinqin School in Yuhang District of Hangzhou shared their high school Pepper club courses and primary school Pepper-based courses, respectively. These outstanding courses and works showcased a deep connection between the SoftBank Robotics Pepper and the information technology classes in the province, facilitating more practical and real-world scenarios for information technology education.
Nearly 200 participants attended the event, including officials from provincial and municipal departments, representatives from education bureaus of various districts, and teachers and students from project schools.
