Hasn’t the iPhone 17 been released? Surprisingly, the iPhone XR, Apple’s classic LCD screen phone with a notch, has become popular again. Following the release of the iPhone 17, the iPhone XR has also welcomed its 7th modification, transforming into a 17 Pro.

Switching to dark mode enhances the effect~
When the XR was released, it faced a lot of criticism for its thickness, large notch, and bulky bezels. However, after a price drop, many users praised it. Surprisingly, even though the XR is an 18 model, it still remains active in the shells of iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17.
Today, let’s take a look back at this legendary modification champion, the iPhone XR.

The front features a 6.1-inch LCD notch screen with a resolution of 1792 × 828 pixels. Although the resolution is somewhat low, the screen size is small, resulting in a pixel density of 326 ppi, which is still relatively sharp. The maximum brightness is 625 nits, which may not provide great outdoor visibility, and there isn’t much else to say about it.
In terms of eye protection, the LCD features true DC dimming with no flicker, making it more comfortable for those sensitive to flickering. Personally, I can accept the large notch, but the bezels are indeed excessively large, and when modifying to other models, dark mode is necessary to hide the flaws.

The A12 chip is slightly stronger than the Snapdragon 855, but as long as you are using an older version of the system and not playing games, it still runs quite smoothly. I must say that Apple’s system optimization is indeed impressive, as they have their own system and processor, making tuning quite effortless.
While daily use is relatively smooth, the 3GB of RAM does lead to noticeable lag during multitasking and background switching. Internal storage options include 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. If you opt for the 256GB version along with cloud storage, it should be sufficient.

The single camera was also one of the reasons the XR faced criticism, featuring a 12-megapixel single camera with an aperture of ƒ/1.8, supporting 5x digital zoom and 4K video recording.
The battery capacity is 2942mAh, supporting “fast charging” (50% charge in 30 minutes) and Qi wireless charging.
It supports 4G (no 5G), Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

It is important to note that the international version is single SIM + eSIM, so those needing dual SIM should check carefully before purchasing.
Overall, while the iPhone XR is a durable modification champion, it is not suitable as a primary device due to its small battery, short battery life, lack of 5G, and signal issues caused by the Intel modem. Using it as a primary device can be quite uncomfortable. Even if modified to look like the iPhone 17 Pro, the front is immediately recognizable, making it fine for personal use but somewhat embarrassing to show off.
