Recently, the official video account of the “Shanghai Theatre Academy” released a video showing that the first robot PhD student “Xueba 01” has completed the enrollment process and officially become a doctoral student in the Digital Performance Design direction of the Drama and Film (Full-time) program at the Shanghai Theatre Academy’s Department of Stage Art, with a four-year study period.

The video shows “Xueba 01” receiving its student ID and interacting with teachers and students on site, as well as ordering a dish of fish-flavored shredded pork in the cafeteria and joining fellow students on the sports field.
In early July, the robot “Xueba 01” developed by Professor Li Qingdu’s team at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology was admitted to the Shanghai Theatre Academy during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
It is reported that the robot “Xueba 01” was created by Professor Li Qingdu’s team at the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, which specializes in “biped dynamic walking of robots”.
The physical body of the intelligent agent PhD “Xueba 01” is an optimized version of the “Xingzhe No. 2” robot, which won third place in the world’s first humanoid robot half marathon held in Beijing, utilizing the technologies of “Xingzhe No. 2” and Rena humanoid, making it a lightweight and high-endurance tendon bionic robot.
After enrollment, “Xueba 01” will have a virtual student ID number, and both schools will rely on their respective disciplinary advantages to establish a collaborative mentoring mechanism for “Art and Science Co-education”. It will be jointly guided by dual mentors from the arts (Professor Yang Qingqing from Shanghai Theatre Academy) and technology (Professor Li Qingdu from the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology), collaboratively designing the growth path and capability map for the robot PhD, and setting up multiple training modules, including basic modules, art modules, system modules, and task modules.
