In the laboratory, he scans the traces on the circuit board as if strumming guitar strings, and the waveforms jumping on the oscilloscope are the electronic symphonies he composes. As the most ‘charged’ hardware engineer in the center, Engineer Zhang has firmly soldered his scientific faith with five years of unwavering research spirit, building the most hardcore stage in the testing ground. Here, there are no glow sticks, but the indicator lights of the oscilloscope flicker for him; there is no need for shouting, the beeping of the multimeter is the BGM of his burning youth!
Craftsmanship is seen in every detailResponsibility is shown in every millimeter
Under the fluorescent lights of the laboratory, the silhouette of Xiao Zhang at his desk is always frozen in time. When faced with the design and debugging of complex circuit boards, he is accustomed to checking the traces one by one, using the oscilloscope to capture subtle current fluctuations. “The precision of hardware design determines the product’s ‘lifeline’,” this phrase is written in the most prominent place at his workstation. During a power supply test, an abnormality occurred in the equipment, and he continuously stayed in the laboratory, repeatedly comparing data, ultimately discovering that it was caused by a short circuit at a solder joint. It is this dedication to ‘being meticulous to the millimeter’ that has allowed the core control circuit design he leads to withstand multiple tests in complex and harsh environments.
Through the seasons, tempering the iron bonesForging the spirit of craftsmanship through wind and sand
From the 40°C testing ground to the sandy Gobi, Xiao Zhang has tempered his strength in extreme environments. Kneeling on the ground to debug equipment under the scorching sun, his face sunburned yet accurately recording data; in the cold wind, his eyelashes frosted, still ensuring the progress of equipment debugging. Continuously moving through the wild desert, the words ‘Youth Commando Team’ on the back of his work uniform are soaked with sweat. He says, “Stable operation of the equipment is the best medal.” Over the past five years, his footprints have spread across testing grounds in multiple provinces, covering over 50,000 kilometers, and the title of ‘dedication’ passed down in the wild testing grounds is the honor measured by wind, snow, and scorching sun.
Passion lights up the starsSong ignites youth
The multimeter and badminton racket on the workbench form the AB sides of Xiao Zhang’s life. As a regular participant in the department’s ‘Golden Voice’ singing competition, he always ignites the atmosphere with his singing; on the badminton court, his fierce smashes and team collaboration leave a deep impression. “Scientific research requires calmness, but youth should not only be silent circuit diagrams,” he often says with a smile. This balanced life philosophy has inspired the enthusiasm of young colleagues in the department, making the office of the Applied Physics Center often resonate with the melodies of youth.
From the laboratory to the wilderness, from precision instruments to vibrant life, Xiao Zhang proves through action that true pioneering spirit requires both the determination to sit on cold benches and the enthusiasm to rush to mountains and seas, as well as the creativity to turn ideals into reality. This may be the vivid continuation of the ‘May Fourth’ torch in the new era—dedicating time to the country with a heart for technology, and illuminating the galaxy with the passion of youth.
