According to data from iResearch and IDC, the market size of smart hardware for children’s education in China (including learning tablets, AI reading pens, etc.) has exceeded 38 billion yuan in 2024, and is expected to reach 45 billion yuan in 2025, continuing to expand at an average annual compound growth rate of 18.5%, and is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan by 2030. Founder’s Insights

Hard Technology: From the perspective of KidoAI’s first product form, you haven’t made many changes to the hardware structure. How does its innovation manifest?

Huang Yong: In our view, the market basis for successful hardware categories lies in their validated user mindset and scalable shipping capacity.

Therefore, Kido’s product strategy will not easily define new categories, but will focus on mature tracks with annual shipments of no less than 3 million units, such as the children’s camera category, which has annual global sales of tens of millions of units. These products have formed stable symbolic forms in user cognition. This is also why we chose the familiar “card-style, rectangular” camera as the product carrier for our first product, in order to avoid additional user education costs caused by form innovation.

At the same time, we observe that the essence of any educational hardware is the content carrier. Users, whether through apps, hardware, or paper media, always have a core demand for content consumption. Kido’s unique product logic of “IP + AI + Hardware” is centered on classic content IP, reconstructing the content experience through AI technology, and then loading it onto hardware forms that align with user mindset.

Taking the classic IP “One Hundred Thousand Whys” as an example, it was previously published in the form of books, audio, etc.; however, entering Kido’s AI publishing process, it has been re-published as a children’s exploration camera. Here, hardware serves as a new medium for content output, while AI is the key engine for enhancing content interaction experience.

It can be said that Kido is essentially more like a new type of publishing company with hardware as its carrier. We do not create content, but through the integration of technology and hardware, reshape the way classic content is delivered, making each product a new type of knowledge medium that carries wisdom and inspiration.

Hard Technology: There are many AI hardware attempts in the market to combine with IP. How to form the sustainable vitality of the product?

Huang Yong: In the field of smart hardware entrepreneurship, any team must face two fundamental issues: how to respond to the substitutability of mobile phones and how to deal with the imitation pressure from Huaqiangbei.

Regarding the issue of mobile phone substitutability, we found a breakthrough through precise user scenario analysis. Public data shows that the smartphone penetration rate among children under 12 in mainland China is relatively low. Although the penetration rate of watches is high, their core functional positioning is in communication and positioning, and the shooting experience has not yet met the demand. This is the basic logic for the children’s camera category to maintain annual sales of tens of millions of units. For users over 12, we adopt a symbiotic strategy with mobile phones, providing more professional services in specific scenarios through connectivity.

White-label imitation poses significant pressure on current hardware startups. In this regard, we will build differentiated content barriers through deep cooperation with authoritative IPs. The Huaqiangbei model excels in hardware assembly but struggles to replicate content ecosystems.

Hard Technology: What was the biggest challenge you encountered during product development?

Huang Yong: The most challenging aspect is finding the most suitable hardware carrier for different IPs. Just as traditional publishing needs to decide whether an IP is suitable for a picture book, comic, or novel, we need to find the most fitting hardware form for each content IP.

For example, the core value of the IP “One Hundred Thousand Whys” lies in stimulating children’s desire to explore and curiosity about the real world. We chose the AI camera as the hardware form because the camera, as a tool for “capturing reality”, is highly consistent with the core of the IP’s “exploration and discovery”. When children capture an insect, a peculiar leaf, or a rainbow outdoors, the AI camera can instantly recognize and activate the relevant knowledge base from “One Hundred Thousand Whys”, achieving situational learning of “what you see is what you learn”, which is an immersive experience that traditional books or audio formats cannot achieve.

Hard Technology: This also means that you must understand both content operation and AI technology development, and be able to comprehend how the two can be integrated.

Huang Yong: This multidimensional cross-disciplinary capability combination constitutes Kido’s core advantage. We have built a complete AI content production line, achieving full-process coverage from IP import, content processing, knowledge supplementation to three reviews and three edits. Based on strict adherence to publishing standards, we ensure the professionalism and accuracy of content through knowledge base structural construction and deep processing technologies such as RAG.

In terms of product development, we plan to launch 3-4 products each year. We will continue the underlying logic of hardware reconstruction by selecting mature categories that have been validated by the market, effectively controlling supply chain risks.
