On November 24, according to foreign media reports, after Samsung Electronics disclosed at the end of July that they had signed an AI chip foundry order worth 22.8 trillion Korean won, approximately 16.4 billion USD, with a large multinational company, Musk confirmed that it was indeed Tesla that signed with Samsung Electronics. He revealed that Samsung’s new wafer factory in Texas will manufacture their next-generation AI6 chip.

When confirming the contract with Samsung Electronics at the end of July, Musk also mentioned the AI5 chip, stating that the design had been completed and it would be manufactured by TSMC. However, during the analyst conference call for the third-quarter financial report in October, he revealed that Samsung Electronics would also be producing it.
Regarding Tesla’s AI5 chip, Musk provided new information on his active social media, revealing that it is nearing tape-out.
Tape-out refers to the process of manufacturing a designed chip through a series of steps, which is a critical phase between chip design and mass production. It is the key step before mass production, where the designed chip is tested for functionality, optimized, and prepared for subsequent large-scale production.
While revealing that the AI5 chip is close to tape-out, Musk also mentioned their next-generation AI series chip, the AI6, stating that the design work has already begun.
