Apple’s latest iPhone 17 series officially went on sale last Friday, but some users who received their new devices quickly discovered some issues.
In the past few days, many users have reported on the MacRumors forum, Reddit, and Apple’s official support community that their iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air are experiencing intermittent Wi-Fi connection issues.

The specific manifestation is that: when unlocking the iPhone, the device’s Wi-Fi briefly disconnects and then automatically reconnects. Although the interruption time is very short, for CarPlay systems that rely on Wi-Fi, this momentary disconnection is enough to affect the driving experience.

Some users have noticed that if they are wearing and unlocking a paired Apple Watch at the same time, this situation is more likely to occur. However, it is currently unclear whether this is the key trigger for the issue.

The extent of the problem is currently unclear. For example, my iPhone 17 Pro did experience random Wi-Fi disconnections when I first got it, even requiring me to go into settings to reconnect manually. However, in recent days of use, this issue has not reoccurred.
Some users speculate that the unstable Wi-Fi may be related to the N1 chip, Apple’s first self-developed network chip, used in the iPhone 17 series.
This year’s four new iPhones have fully adopted the N1 chip, replacing the Broadcom chips that have been used for many years. The N1 chip supports the latest Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connections. Apple emphasized at the launch that the N1 chip has improvements in performance and reliability, especially enhancing the experience of personal hotspots and AirDrop.

Apple’s Vice President of Wireless Software Technologies, Arun Mathias, recently mentioned in an interview that the N1 chip also has excellent energy efficiency, allowing it to utilize Wi-Fi access points more efficiently for positioning, thereby reducing reliance on power-hungry GPS. Additionally, by not needing to frequently wake the application processor, it can significantly improve background operation efficiency.
However, it cannot yet be determined if the N1 chip is the root cause of the Wi-Fi issues encountered by some users. Such situations are often more likely to be related to software compatibility or optimization issues, which will likely be resolved through system updates, rather than hardware defects.

Apple is expected to soon release the iOS 26.0.1 update, which may bring improvements. If you are also using the iPhone 17 series, feel free to share whether you have encountered similar Wi-Fi anomalies.
