At the SC25 conference, we discovered several models of the AmpereOne M platform, including the Gigabyte R1A3-T40-AAV1. This is a single-socket platform that utilizes a 12-channel memory Arm chip, providing a modern competitor to AMD and Intel’s large socket products.

The server features a 1U chassis with four front-facing PCIe Gen5 NVMe drive bays. This configuration is more suited for ten or twelve 2.5-inch NVMe SSDs, so it is surprising to see the 3.5-inch specification.

In the center is a single AmpereOne M processor socket, with six DDR5 DIMM slots on each side, totaling twelve. This is a twelve-channel design with a single memory module per channel (1DPC).

Similar to many motherboards, we rely on cables to connect the PCIe interfaces. Below is the x16 cable connector.

At the rear of the chassis, there are two OCP NIC 3.0 slots, with two full-height PCIe Gen5 x16 slots above them, providing a total of 64 PCIe Gen5 lanes. According to network configuration standards, this design can support the deployment of four 400GbE ports at the back while retaining a 1GbE port and a management port.

The connector at the back of the motherboard is an MCIO x8 connector.

In the 1U platform, Gigabyte not only showcased a 12-channel memory configuration but also enabled approximately 84 of the maximum 96 PCIe Gen5 lanes on the platform, which is quite impressive. We hope to test these AmpereOne M platforms in the near future. Even if we cannot, NVIDIA’s support for Arm servers, along with development platforms like NVIDIA DGX Spark/GB10, is indeed driving the growth of the Arm ecosystem.
