On the morning of July 18, the Hongbei Community’s summer care program for youth held a unique Micro:bit programming science popularization event, bringing children a technology journey filled with fun and challenges, igniting their enthusiasm for exploring technology in this hot summer.
This event was organized by the Caidian District Science Association, with special invitations extended to professional programming teachers to conduct the classes. The course was designed based on the children’s interests, combining theory and practice to explain programming knowledge in an accessible manner. During the theoretical teaching segment, the teacher used simple and understandable examples to transform complex programming concepts into content that children could easily grasp. For instance, when explaining logical judgments in programming, the teacher used the everyday example of traffic lights to help children understand how programs respond to different conditions, sparking their curiosity.
Practical operation was the highlight of this course. Under the guidance of Teacher Zhou, the children eagerly operated the Micro:bit microcomputer. They started with simple command inputs and gradually mastered basic programming skills such as digital display, LED control, and sensor data reading. In the “Mini Weather Station” project, the children connected a temperature and humidity sensor to the Micro:bit, successfully wrote a program, and read and displayed environmental temperature and humidity data in real-time, experiencing the application of programming in real life.
This Micro:bit programming science popularization event not only allowed the youth to grasp basic programming knowledge and skills but also planted the seeds of technology in their hearts. The community leader stated that they will continue to hold more similar science popularization activities in the future to enrich the extracurricular lives of young people, support their comprehensive growth, and contribute to cultivating future technology innovation talents.
