It is reported that last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was equipped with a custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU, completing the last piece of the puzzle for the platform’s internal integration of custom cores, alongside the Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU, Spectra ISP, and Snapdragon X series modems.The latest fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform, as the first sequel after completing the “last piece of the puzzle” in the previous generation, has brought mobile terminal innovation to new heights.
According to reports, the custom Oryon CPU in the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has been further enhanced, with the Hexagon NPU, Adreno GPU, Spectra ISP, and other modules innovatively upgraded, providing stronger capabilities at every level, resulting in a significant leap in the overall SoC performance.
Official information shows that the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform is built on TSMC’s N3P 3nm process, marking another upgrade in manufacturing technology.The core is the third-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, designed to deliver exceptional performance and energy efficiency.Its maximum clock speed reaches 4.6GHz, making it the world’s fastest mobile CPU. The high clock speed, combined with hardware matrix acceleration and a total of 24MB ultra-low latency cache, enables ultra-fast response in multitasking, browsing, content creation, and gaming.
According to tests, the Geekbench 6 score of the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 QRD reference prototype reached 3839 points in single-core and 12481 points in multi-core, showing a significant improvement.
In terms of GPU, the new generation Adreno GPU adopts a tile architecture, with a maximum clock speed of 1.2GHz, achieving a 23% performance improvement.At the same time, the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supports 18MB of Qualcomm Adreno dedicated high-speed memory, which is a memory cache dedicated to the GPU, improving bandwidth and reducing access latency, saving 10% power consumption, and enhancing the performance of key rendering technologies.
Regarding the NPU, the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is equipped with an upgraded Hexagon NPU.It is reported that this is the core of AI functions in smartphones, accelerating AI tasks through more efficient processing, resulting in a 37% improvement in AI performance, supporting 64-bit memory virtualization, and adding an AI accelerator that can run the latest large language models (LLM) on smartphones, as well as supporting power-saving mode for terminal-side AI assistants.

On the basis of the above upgrades, the fifth-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 AnTuTu V11 score exceeded 4.5 million, placing it in a leading position.
