In early autumn, entering the production workshop of Jiangxi Longyi Connection Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Longyi Connection”) in the Ganxiang Cooperation Industrial Park in Shangli County, one can see sheets of golden substrates as thin as cicada wings smoothly operating in fully automated equipment. After more than twenty precise processes including material cutting, drilling, film application, developing, and etching, they transform into flexible circuit boards (FPC), which are sold to many well-known domestic and foreign enterprises.
Little Jiang is an employee in the AOI (Automated Optical Inspection) workshop at Longyi Connection. A few years ago, she was working along the coast, but now she is employed right at her doorstep. “After deducting social security and other expenses, I take home between 5,000 to 7,000 yuan each month, and I can also enjoy additional benefits such as excellent employee awards, year-end bonuses, and quality awards.” Little Jiang is not an isolated case; among the more than 530 employees at Longyi Connection, over 70% are from Pingxiang City. Many young people who once worked away from home have returned to their hometown because of companies like Longyi Connection setting up in Shangli County.
The rapid development of Longyi Connection is a microcosm of the industrial transformation in Shangli County. Once famous for its firecrackers, this small county is now targeting key industries such as electronic information, equipment manufacturing, and food and pharmaceuticals. Relying on the Ganxiang Cooperation Industrial Park, it actively undertakes the transfer of high-quality industries from coastal areas, gradually building an ecological chain for the PCB industry that integrates enterprise clustering, resource intensification, and technology integration, gathering dozens of related companies covering all aspects from substrate, lamination, drilling, assembly, to testing, paving a path of cluster leap from “0 to 1” and from “1 to N.”
Digital transformation has become a key engine. In the smart factory of Jiangxi Dongxun Precision Manufacturing Co., Ltd., automated equipment collaborates in real-time, and big data dashboards clearly present the production progress of each circuit board. From January to July this year, the company achieved an output value of approximately 180 million yuan. Personnel and Administration Manager Xiao Huaisheng stated that the company is actively developing 32-layer high-end circuit boards to accelerate entry into emerging markets such as AI servers and new energy vehicles.
To move towards high-end industries, technological support is essential. In 2022, Shangli County established the Jiangxi Electronic Circuit Research Center in collaboration with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, introducing high-end testing equipment and R&D teams. Almost simultaneously, the Microtech (Jiangxi) Laboratory, led by the China Printed Circuit Industry Association, also settled in the park.
“The center has established industry-university-research cooperation with dozens of enterprises in the park, successfully tackling several provincial-level research projects. The ‘High-Frequency Microwave Hybrid Pressure Heterogeneous Integration Board’ R&D project has been selected for the 2025 Jiangxi Province Key R&D Program in High-tech Fields,” introduced Zou Wenzhong, head of the R&D department of the Jiangxi Electronic Circuit Research Center, emphasizing that bringing laboratory results out of papers and into production lines is becoming the most solid foundation for industrial upgrading in Shangli.
The growth of enterprises cannot be separated from a suitable environment. In recent years, Shangli County has continuously optimized the business environment, implementing a work mechanism of “one project, one designated leader, one service team” to support enterprises in various aspects such as project construction, financing support, and personnel recruitment.
It is reported that in the first half of this year, 55 industrial enterprises above designated size in Shangli County achieved a total output value of 4.061 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 14.2%. A series of rising numbers quietly mark the footsteps of this small city in western Jiangxi towards the “new.”
