CNC machines are known as the “mother machine of industry“, effectively solving the problems of complex, precise, small-batch, and multi-variety part processing. They are flexible, high-performance automated machines that represent the development direction of modern machine control technology and are core assets in industries such as automotive, aerospace, and mold manufacturing.

โCNC machine data acquisition challenges
However, machine networking and data acquisition often face the following challenges:
-
๐Complex protocols: Different brands (FANUC, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Heidenhain, etc.) use their own communication methods;
-
๐Diverse data: Operating status, alarms, tool information, program execution status, with varying formats;
-
๐ฐHigh integration costs: Traditional solutions have long development cycles, complex deployments, and high maintenance costs.
These challenges make it difficult for many enterprises to achieve digital transformation in CNC.
๐Starting point of open source: IoTGateway

As we all know, in the field of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), device networking and data acquisition are the first steps towards smart manufacturing.
To this end, we launched the open-source projectIoTGateway in 2021, an industrial data acquisition gateway centered onsimplicity, stability, and openness, connectinglocal devices (such as PLCs, barcode scanners, robots, CNC machines, etc.) with remote business systems (such as IoT platforms, SCADA systems, MES systems, etc.) through hardware devices or software programs. All data communication between terminal devices and remote business systems is achieved through the industrial IoT gateway, making industrial device networking more open, simpler, and more efficient.
Protocol conversion
With visual configuration, easily connect to any of your devices and systems, such as PLCs, barcode scanners, CNCs, databases, serial devices, upper computers, OPC Servers, OPC UA Servers, Mqtt Servers, etc..
Cloud connection
Built-in Mqtt server, OPC UA server, easily interact with MES, SCADA data. Supports private cloud platforms such as IoTSharp, ThingsBoard, and supports RPC commands and reverse data writing.
Hardware support
The IoTGateway gateway supports Windows, Linux, and Docker at the operating system level; at the hardware level, it supports x86 hosts, arm32, and arm64 embedded development boards. It provides complete protocols for Modbus, all series of Siemens PLCs, Mitsubishi QPLC, Omron PLC, ABPLC, MTConnect CNC machines, etc.
Currently, IoTGateway has gained widespread attention and application:

๐eLink-CNC Version

Based on the accumulation of the open-source project IoTGateway and enterprise needs, we launchedeLinkโan industrial IoT gateway for enterprise customers, which has been widely implemented inmedium and large manufacturing enterprises and listed companies, providinghigher reliability, security, and maintainability.
Today, we have specifically developedeLink-CNC Version, focusing on networking and data acquisition for CNC machines:
-
๐Wide compatibility: Supports almost all mainstream CNC control systems;
-
โกPlug and play: No complex development required, CNC machine connection can be completed in minutes;
-
๐Comprehensive data collection: Covers key parameters such as operating status, alarm details, tool information, program progress, axis coordinates, spindle data, processing time, etc.
-
๐Seamless integration: Easily integrates with SCADA, MES, MOM, ERP, cloud platforms (MQTT or database integration).
-
โ Complete functionality: Consistent with the official version;
-
โ Limitations:Supports data acquisition from 1 CNC device, regardless of type and time;
-
โ Suitable for rapid validation solutions, testing, evaluation, learning, verification, and communication.
Whether you are a digital transformation leader in a factory, a system integrator, or a solution provider,you can start a new exploration of smart manufacturing with just one CNC.
