Dr. Jin Heping is a leading expert and technical leader in the field of hydropower engineering and renewable energy digitization in China. He currently serves as the Deputy Chief Engineer and Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Committee at the China Three Gorges Corporation. As the overall head of information technology, he has played a core role in the construction of five of the world’s top eleven large hydropower projects, including the Three Gorges and Baihetan projects. He has overcome key digital technology challenges in large-scale engineering construction in China, addressed international challenges in the informatization and management of hydropower project resettlement, and led the development of the world’s largest clean energy corridor operation monitoring and dispatching command platform. He has also created a cybersecurity protection system for large-scale water conservancy hub projects and developed autonomous and controllable core industrial control equipment for hydropower and wind power, breaking foreign monopolies to ensure the safety of national key projects. He has developed the first domestic basin data element circulation platform and large models for the hydropower industry, as well as an AI testbed for renewable energy, leading the intelligent upgrade of the industry. He was the first in the industry to establish a complete set of digital technology standards, overcoming key technical challenges in the digitalization of hydropower project construction and operation management, resulting in a series of original achievements that have been widely promoted and applied to over a thousand large projects in various industries, including water conservancy, energy, transportation, environmental protection, construction, new infrastructure, and mining. His work supports national strategies such as the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Western Development, and the “East Data West Calculation” project, making significant contributions to the advancement of technology and the improvement of digital intelligence levels in the industry. His research results have been a major innovation point supporting the award of the National Science and Technology Progress Special Prize for the “Three Gorges Project” and have received eight provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, two national-level second prizes for modern enterprise management innovation achievements, the China Patent Award, the MIS ASIA Innovation Award, the Gold Medal at the China International Software Expo, and international invention awards in Geneva and Paris. He has edited 30 standards, published 69 papers, and holds 72 authorized patents and over a hundred software copyrights. He has been recognized as an expert receiving special government allowances from the State Council and as a leading talent in Wuhan’s industrial sector (innovation category).
