On July 14, after more than a month of intense construction, the intelligent upgrade and transformation project of the ground auxiliary transportation system at Luwai Coal Mine was successfully completed and officially put into operation. This also marks the official entry of the mine’s ground auxiliary transportation system into a new era of intelligence, creating a new demonstration of intelligent systems for ground auxiliary transportation in coal mines.

Unmanned Operations
Launching a New “Intelligent” Transportation Model
In the ground auxiliary transportation control room of Luwai Coal Mine, operators only need to tap the intelligent control console to easily complete a series of complex operations such as pushing, loading, and switching tracks for the mine cars, achieving a fully unmanned operation process in the circular yard transportation. In the past, workers had to drive electric vehicles outdoors in harsh conditions to transport mine cars, which not only posed risks of injury due to manual operations but also consumed a lot of physical strength and time, with safety hazards such as derailment and tipping. Now, these situations have been completely changed.
“Previously, driving electric vehicles in the circular yard exposed us to wind, sun, and rain, and we had to manually attach and detach pins and switch tracks, which was time-consuming and risky for skin injuries. Now, one person can complete the operations from the control room through the console, and can also control it outdoors with a remote control. This not only reduces the number of operators but also speeds up the turnover of the cars, making it safer.” Li Mingkun, a former electric vehicle driver in the transportation section, praised the intelligent transformation.

Integration of Cutting-Edge Technologies
Building a Safe and Efficient Transportation System
The intelligent system for ground auxiliary transportation that has been transformed integrates multiple cutting-edge technologies such as AI intelligent recognition, 5G communication, automated control, and intelligent management. The system consists of two pushing robots, automatic switches, climbing machines, high-definition video monitoring, and an intelligent control console, utilizing lithium battery drive technology with wireless fast charging capabilities, allowing the robots to push up to 50 tons when fully charged.
When the mine car is lifted from the auxiliary shaft, the control room operators press the operation button after viewing the high-definition display screen, and the robot immediately drives the mine car. During transportation, the mine car automatically adapts to complete loading as needed, and after entering the circular yard, it automatically switches tracks for transfer. With the perception system, it can also accurately avoid obstacles, safely and efficiently delivering the mine car to the designated location. The series of operations for climbing, pushing, and entering the auxiliary shaft are also completed through remote control from the control room, making the entire process efficient and convenient.

Implementation of the “Three Modernizations” Strategy
Achieving“Reducing Personnel, Improving Quality, Increasing Efficiency, and Ensuring Safety”
The system realizes the intelligent linkage of robots, automatic switches, climbing machines, and other equipment, operating smoothly and efficiently, reducing manual operation steps, and creating a new model of intelligent transportation with “AI + Robotics + Remote Control”. Compared to traditional methods, the system’s operational efficiency has increased by over 30%, significantly reducing the labor intensity and operational risks for operators, and greatly decreasing the number of personnel required, truly achieving the goals of “reducing personnel, increasing safety, and improving efficiency.” This is also an important measure for the mine to promote the strategy of “mechanization replacing manpower, automation reducing manpower, and intelligence achieving unmanned operations.”
The implementation of this system not only injects new momentum into the safe and efficient production of the mine but also sets a new benchmark for intelligent construction in coal mines.
