Yulin New Materials Group Achieves Breakthrough in 3D Printing Aluminum Alloy Powder Preparation Technology

Recently, good news came from the R&D center of Yulin New Materials Group: the center has achieved a new breakthrough in the preparation of high-quality aluminum-silicon-magnesium alloy powder, successfully validating the feasibility of the new preparation process. The produced powder has a sphericity exceeding 90%, a flowability of 52.32 seconds/50 grams, and an oxygen increase of only 290 parts per million, reaching industry-leading levels. The new process has broad application prospects and can be widely used for non-ferrous metals and their alloys such as aluminum and copper. The products are applied in additive manufacturing of complex components, which is expected to significantly enhance 3D printing efficiency and quality.

In the past, the preparation of 3D printing aluminum alloy powder in our country was limited by equipment performance and process experience, resulting in issues such as low powder yield, uneven particle size distribution, and poor sphericity. To overcome these challenges, the R&D center’s team conducted research based on a self-designed and customized pilot atomization powder production line, applying single-stream atomization technology, optimizing tooling and controlling parameters to achieve equipment function upgrades and stable operation, with the powder yield stabilizing at over 80%, far exceeding traditional processes and industry averages, while significantly reducing production energy consumption and raw material loss, achieving a comprehensive cost reduction of over 20%, laying the foundation for industrial-scale production.
