Introduction

In the field of logistics sorting, linear narrow-band sorting machines are one of the key devices to enhance cargo handling efficiency. Optimizing the logistics sorting process has also become an important part of intelligent technology transformation. Dataie wireless devices are responsible for the communication tasks in the narrow-band sorting system, aiming to further enhance the coordination performance and operational stability of the sorting machines.

1. Project Background

The owner of this project is a certain express sorting station in Ningbo, mainly responsible for the logistics transportation of Zhongtong and Yuantong in the region. With the explosive growth of the e-commerce industry, express sorting is currently facing tremendous efficiency pressure. Traditional manual sorting or circular sorting lines can no longer meet the demands for high throughput and low error rates, so the owner decided to upgrade to a linear narrow-band sorting machine system.

The main application of wireless technology is to transmit the cargo information scanned by the sensor unit of the linear narrow-band sorting machine to the control units of each slave station through the local PLC control system, thereby wirelessly controlling the sorting machine’s control unit to quickly complete sorting at the preset intervals, achieving automation of the sorting process.

2. Project Challenges

Linear narrow-band sorting machines typically consist of a long circular or linear track, with their “slave stations” (such as multiple motor drivers, photoelectric sensors, barcode readers, etc.) installed on continuously moving narrow bands or carts. The master station (PLC in the control cabinet) is fixed.

Whether it is the steel frame structure of the sorting machine on-site, the high-speed moving slave station equipment, or the strict requirements for real-time data transmission and frequent interaction, all pose multiple severe challenges to wireless communication devices. These challenges mainly include: stable transmission capability in a high electromagnetic interference environment, uninterrupted high-throughput data exchange during movement, and ensuring the reliability and real-time coverage of wireless signals under dynamic working conditions.

3. Dataie Wireless Solution

On-site, the narrow-band sorting machine has a total length of 180 meters, divided into 9 control units, using Siemens S7-1200 PLC as the slave control unit; the local PLC control system uses Siemens S7-1500 PLC as the core control master station (the main control cabinet is placed at the side of the scanning area).

Dataie wireless communication technicians considered thehigh-speed response and frequent data volume characteristics of express automatic sorting and decided to use theDTD418M series wireless communication terminals for European and American PLCs to meet the communication needs of the narrow-band sorting machine. The master station uses the DTD418MC outdoor PLC wireless communication terminal, installed in the local PLC control cabinet, while the slave stations use DTD418MB, installed in the 9 narrow-band slave control units.

To ensure the high-frequency continuous stable operation of the narrow-band sorting machine, this wireless communication terminalis equipped with an EMI anti-interference unit, using industrial-gradefully digital wireless encryption technology, with a wireless transmission coverage distance of 1KM, meeting the operational requirements of complex on-site environments while quickly responding to real-time sorting tasks.
