Introduction

In the context of the rapid development of IoT technology, many small and medium-sized enterprises and individual developers hope to create their own smart systems. However, the reality is that most platforms are either too complex and costly or lack essential features and scalability. Today, I recommend a truly “out-of-the-box” IoT project—MzMedia, which is fully open-sourced and donated to the Dromara organization. This is not just a simple demo, but a complete platform developed from scratch with production-level capabilities. Its goal is clear: to enable small and medium-sized enterprises to quickly implement solutions and to allow everyone to truly understand, learn, and utilize it.

Project Overview

MzMedia is a free, open-source, lightweight video IoT platform, deeply customized and extended based on RuoYi-Vue-Plus, developed using the Spring Boot + Vue3 technology stack, and supports JDK 17/19. It is suitable for various scenarios such as smart homes, agricultural monitoring, water conservancy monitoring, industrial control, and vehicle networking.

The platform not only integrates mainstream IoT protocols and streaming media capabilities but also deeply integrates several excellent open-source tools from the Dromara ecosystem, such as Sa-Token (authentication), Hutool (utility classes), LiteFlow (rule engine), Forest (HTTP calls), and GoView (data visualization).

Project Features

The platform’s features are divided into two main modules: basic framework functions and core IoT functions.

Basic Framework Functions

These include user management, role permissions, department positions, menu configuration, tenant management, operation logs, file storage, scheduled tasks, code generators, etc. It supports multi-data source switching, dynamic authorization login, online user monitoring, and system service monitoring, meeting the general needs of enterprise-level systems.

Core IoT Functions

These cover MQTT protocol access (EMQX 5.0), GB28181/RTSP/RTMP video monitoring (ZLMediaKit), ModbusTCP/PLC industrial protocol support, model management, device grouping and OTA upgrades, real-time status monitoring, rule engine (Node-RED + LiteFlow), data visualization (GoView), and device configuration (ShadowEditor), supporting device SDK access to operating systems such as OpenWrt, FreeRTOS, and RT-Thread.

Project Characteristics

The platform adheres to the design philosophy of “simple and easy to use, out-of-the-box.” All components can be deployed with a single click using Docker, eliminating the need for manual configuration of complex environments. The code generator can generate front-end and back-end CRUD code with one click, significantly reducing development workload.

The system supports a multi-tenant architecture, with a complete permission system and data isolation mechanism, suitable for SaaS deployment. The front end uses Vue3 + TS + Element Plus, providing a modern and responsive interface; the back end has a clear structure, and the plugin design facilitates functional expansion.

Completely open-source and free for commercial use, as long as the open-source license file is retained. The documentation is comprehensive, and the deployment process is clear, making it suitable for personal learning and rapid integration by enterprises.
