
On the morning of November 27, the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Tower C project, invested and constructed by Shenzhen Bay Development Company, reached a critical milestone in curtain wall construction — the successful installation of the super-large complex wrinkled curtain wall panels, marking a new step in overcoming complex architectural technical challenges for the “Tower of the Future” as the curtain wall construction enters a more challenging phase. Guests attending the installation ceremony included Shenzhen Bay Development Company General Manager Mai Hao, Deputy General Manager Huang Jinjie, China State Construction Fifth Engineering Division Deputy General Manager and Chief Engineer Wang Yongfeng, South China Company Deputy General Manager He Xiaolin, Far East Lijin Curtain Wall Deputy General Manager Long Tao, China State Construction Buer Curtain Wall Chairman Liu Guojun, and Harbin Institute of Technology Professor Zha Xiaoxiong.

The installed super-complex wrinkled curtain wall panels are 4.5 meters high and weigh 1 ton. This curtain wall system features a unique double-curved wrinkled design, which, through the staggered arrangement of glass and aluminum panels, naturally forms an efficient external shading structure. The system demonstrates a deep integration of architectural technology and green concepts. By optimizing the self-shading parameters of the glass, it can effectively reduce building energy consumption, providing practical references for energy-saving in super-tall buildings.

The overall scale of the C Tower project curtain wall engineering is enormous, with a total curtain wall area of 415,000 square meters (approximately the size of 59 football fields), including the industry’s first wrinkled multi-curved unit curtain wall, comprising 71 curtain wall systems and over 90 types of glass, making it one of the most complex projects in the country. The exterior design of the C Tower utilizes the wrinkled curtain wall as a core element, optimizing building lighting, ventilation, and shading performance through exquisite folding and undulation, while the dynamic and elegant facade rhythm also shapes a unique architectural personality and vitality.

The sci-fi design of the “Tower of the Future” presents numerous challenges for the design and construction of the project’s curtain wall, requiring solutions for multiple issues such as steel structure deformation and complex spatial structures, pushing precision control to the limits of the construction industry. The project team achieved precise positioning of the curtain wall through parametric collaborative design, mass intelligent computation, digital processing and manufacturing, and intelligent on-site construction.

The successful first installation of the super-complex wrinkled curtain wall lays a solid foundation for the subsequent curtain wall engineering construction.
