Both companies will collaborate to provide next-generation power management solutions, including vertical power supplies.
Power conversion company Flex Power Modules has announced a partnership with Renesas to create next-generation onboard power management solutions for CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, ASICs, and accelerator cards that support AI workloads.
Tom Truman, Vice President of Performance Computing at Renesas, stated: “By integrating our latest generation of smart power stages with the advanced design capabilities of Flex power modules, we have a unique advantage to provide high-performance solutions to our customers, significantly speeding up design cycles, saving PCB space, and reducing costs.”
Chris Butler, President of Flex Embedded and Critical Power, remarked: “Our collaboration with Renesas will enable us to rapidly deliver state-of-the-art power solutions at scale. Processor-level power innovation is the first step in meeting the rapidly changing computing demands and is key to Flex’s manufacturing, grid-to-chip power products, and service offerings that support data center expansion.”
This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to expand the Flex Power Modules vertical power delivery (VPD) product line. According to Flex Power Modules, the VPD products maximize efficiency, improve transient response, and optimize thermal performance for data center processors to meet the demanding power requirements of artificial intelligence. Additionally, Renesas will incorporate the jointly developed two-phase power tower into its existing power tower product line. The new solution integrates the technologies of both companies, combining joint design expertise and Flex Power Modules‘ manufacturing capabilities to scale delivery through Renesas’ channels.
The two companies will also collaborate to develop other high-density power modules, integrating Renesas’ smart power stages into Flex Power Modules‘ efficient DC/DC converters. These modules will be paired with Renesas’ latest digital multiphase controllers, supporting configurations from two-phase to 32-phase to meet the power specification requirements of any power bus.
