Lesson 9: Night Light – Creating a Caring “Night Guardian” for Smart Sensing Lighting

Welcome back to “Mind+ and ESP32: A Journey of AIoT Enlightenment for Kids”!!

In Lesson 8, “Distance Measuring Device”, we utilized ultrasonic waves to achieve contactless distance measurement, equipping the ESP32 with a pair of “sonic eyes”.

Lesson 9: Night Light

It acts like a caring “night guardian”, capable of sensing your presence in the dark, automatically illuminating a soft light, and turning off after you leave. In this lesson, we will integrate “sensing” and “control” to create a truly intelligent night light that understands your needs, experiencing the clever application of infrared sensing technology in daily life.

[Task Objective]

Using a human infrared sensor and LED light, create an intelligent night light:

Automatically illuminate the LED light when human movement is detected in low ambient light conditions.

Achieve the intelligent effect of “light on when someone is present, light off when they leave”.

[Core Knowledge Points]

Human Infrared Sensor (PIR): Learn the principle of pyroelectric infrared sensing to detect human movement.

Logical AND Operation: Combine light conditions (dark) with human sensing conditions (presence) as the final judgment for lighting.

System Integration: Integrate multiple sensor inputs to achieve intelligent outputs that meet complex logic.

Project Optimization: Understand why a light sensor is not needed in this project and consider the optimal hardware configuration.

[Expansion Challenge]

Theft Alarm System: We learned about the application of human infrared sensors in security. Can we add a buzzer to create a simple theft alarm device based on this?

Function Upgrade: How to adjust the program to delay the night light from turning off for a few seconds after a person leaves, enhancing the user experience?
