As a programmer, I often need to search for information on Google, but the local magic internet tool has many drawbacks. For example, it requires a separate export of the proxy in the Mac terminal, and a separate configuration of the system proxy in the virtual machine. When I enable the magic internet tool on my local machine, the Windows Store does not display content…
The best way to solve these issues is to complete the magic internet connection on the router side. Using the OpenWrt system for the router is optimal because it is sufficiently open and open-source controlled.
However, I am mostly not at home, so I cannot utilize a router configured for the magic internet. Therefore, I decided to modify a low-power Raspberry Pi 4B into a router that can be powered by a power bank and carried around.
Features of the Homemade Router
-
Modified using Raspberry Pi 4B, low power consumption, affordable price, and powerful performance -
Powered by Type-C, can be started with an ordinary power bank -
Compact size, only the size of a playing card -
Equipped with a USB external network card, supports normal WiFi to magic internet WiFi -
Based on OpenWrt modification, can install various amazing software

Appearance After Modification

Can Be Placed Next to You While Reading Outside

This white network card is not very aesthetically pleasing; from a practicality standpoint, it can easily become loose if it falls. Therefore, I ordered a shorter external network card, which I will replace once it arrives.

The 8GB Version of Raspberry Pi 4B Has Sufficient Performance

Programmers never complain about excessive performance. I can directly log into the Raspberry Pi via ssh [email protected] (default password: password), run some Docker programs, execute training algorithms, configure development environments, and conduct server development. Using 8GB of memory is much more enjoyable than using a virtual machine!

The steps to flash OpenWrt on the Raspberry Pi 4B are almost identical to those I previously wrote for flashing OpenWrt on the Raspberry Pi 3B.
