Diverse services meet needs and help achieve “doorstep” elderly care
At the Fengyun Hedu Community Health and Wellness Center (Xianghe Senior Apartment), one can see that the design for the elderly focuses on details both inside and outside the building—except for stairs, there are almost no steps throughout the entire building. Each room is equipped with emergency call systems, barrier-free access, and other supporting facilities. The rooms for the elderly are divided into single, double, and triple rooms, equipped with basic facilities such as air conditioning and heating. The washrooms are designed according to elderly-friendly standards, with spacious bathroom doors that can accommodate wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
“We have designed98 beds, and currently, there are40 residents in the facility,” said Liu Huanling, the director of the Fengyun Hedu Community Health and Wellness Center (Xianghe Senior Apartment). Here, we focus on community elderly care and the “embedded” elderly care model, adhering to the principles of “openness, sharing, and efficiency,” bringing daytime care and living assistance services closer to the elderly, creating an integrated space at their doorstep that combines “medical, care, food, and entertainment,” meeting the diverse service needs of the elderly and allowing them to receive care right at home.
According to Liu Huanling, the Fengyun Hedu Community Health and Wellness Center (Xianghe Senior Apartment) was established by repurposing an idle building from a relocated kindergarten, revitalizing unused assets, and relying on nearby infrastructure and medical support to provide high-quality elderly care services to local residents.
Ms. Guo’s mother-in-law suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and has poor self-care abilities, often losing control of her emotions and verbally abusing family members. After moving in, Guo Zhongshuang feels much lighter. “Now I come here twice a week to check in, bring some clean clothes, and take care of the elderly,” Ms. Guo said. Her mother-in-law moved in before the official opening, and the new room and facilities have made her feel very secure. “During this time, it is evident that the care for the elderly here is very attentive, and that is why we chose to send her here.”
“Embedded” elderly care new model makes the elderly feel more secure
The “embedded” elderly care services promoted by the Fengyun Hedu Community Health and Wellness Center (Xianghe Senior Apartment) provide comprehensive and thoughtful care for the elderly. In terms of elderly care services, the facility is equipped with elderly-friendly devices, and caregivers are on duty in shifts to ensure the health of the elderly; the elderly meal assistance service is unique, offering lunch services with a balanced mix of meat and vegetables, strictly monitoring food safety at every stage, ensuring that the elderly can eat with peace of mind.
In terms of medical services, the Fengyun Hedu Community Health and Wellness Center (Xianghe Senior Apartment) collaborates with Jining Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital to soon introduce outpatient services, treatment rooms, observation rooms, pharmacies, and treatment rooms into the community health and wellness center, better serving the elderly.“We will send medical staff here weekly to provide outpatient, inspection, and treatment services, allowing the elderly to enjoy quality medical services without leaving home,” said Wang Yong, director of the Party and Government Office of Jining Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital. “The ’embedded’ elderly care new model is a breakthrough and innovation of the traditional elderly care model, allowing the elderly to enjoy quality elderly care services right at their doorstep, achieving a magnificent transformation from ‘elderly care’ to ‘enjoying old age.'” It is reported that the “embedded” elderly care services promoted by the Fengyun Hedu Community Health and Wellness Center (Xianghe Senior Apartment) will also actively explore new paths and methods for community elderly care services, accumulating valuable experience for the development of elderly care services in Taibai Lake New District and even the entire city.
Jining Taibai Lake New District has always attached great importance to improving the quality and efficiency of elderly care services, actively promoting the construction and improvement of the elderly care service system. Currently, there are a total of14 various elderly care facilities in the district, including 5 elderly care institutions, 5 urban community daytime care centers, and 4 rural happy homes, with a total of919 elderly care beds. In the next three to five years, the district will continue to build a diversified three-tier elderly care service system, coordinating home, community, and institutional care, and integrating medical and health care. Daytime care facilities and community embedded elderly care services will be more accessible, institutional elderly care services will be more professional, family care capabilities will be significantly improved, and the long-term care service system for the elderly will be further improved, ensuring that elderly care services are more sufficient, balanced, and of high quality.
