On the first day of school, the campus of the Affiliated Primary School of the Education Institute and Fengpu Joint Primary School was filled with the vibrant fusion of technology and culture. The “Sunshine Babies” embarked on a new semester through engaging AI experience projects, immersing themselves in the unique charm of the collision between innovation and tradition.
The “AI Creator: Chinese Adventures” experience center on campus is a “paradise” for children, with various interactive experience projects that leave everyone dazzled. Among them, the two popular projects of controlling robots and AI paper cutting attracted a lot of attention. “I just played with drones and unmanned tanks; they can fly (move) freely!” a student excitedly shared the joy of operating technological equipment, closely experiencing the wonders of technology while adjusting mechanical movements and controlling movement trajectories.
The AI paper cutting booth was equally lively. Children gathered around the touchscreen devices, carefully selecting their favorite traditional patterns. After the AI system quickly generated personalized paper cutting designs, they cut them out themselves. “We combine the paper cutting skills passed down from our ancestors with the latest AI technology, allowing everyone to see a modern yet culturally rich side of our country,” a participating student expressed the significance behind the project. Ordinary paper transformed into works that carry traditional charm with the help of technology and skilled hands, resulting in a great sense of accomplishment.
From defense technology experiences to innovative intangible cultural heritage, from traditional craftsmanship to AI creative practices, children explored and unlocked new ways of cultural inheritance through technology at various interactive booths. Yu Anqin, the vice principal of the Affiliated Experimental Primary School of the Education Institute in Fengxian District, stated: “We organized students on the first day of school to grow into responsible, dream-driven, and hardworking young individuals in the new era through a magical garden of Chinese culture and modern technology. The school will use this as a starting point to create an ‘AI + Traditional Culture’ curriculum.” Additionally, the school held a wonderful opening ceremony to kick off a hopeful new semester.
