Futura, 2021Artistic Residence Caatinga
This blue house is an artistic space designed by artist Santídio Pereira for the Caatinga Artistic Village (Residência artística Caatinga), named Futura (the image below shows the house before renovation). It is specifically used for interaction and communication between artists from around the world and local villagers, allowing artists to draw more creative inspiration and contribute back to local artistic creation.
Santídio Pereira, born in 1996 in the village of Curral Comprido in northeastern Brazil, moved to São Paulo with his family during childhood. He began his artistic enlightenment at the age of 8 in workshops run by non-profit organizations. From a young age, art has been a part of his life. The Brazilian biomes, including the Atlantic Forest, Caatinga drylands, Cerrado savannas, and the Amazon River basin, serve as sources of inspiration for his work. Sunshine, bromeliads, and childhood scenes often transform into abstract and colorful patterns. His creative method centers around woodcutting, and he has developed a unique process called “incision, cut and fitting,” which subverts the traditional definition of “multiplicity” in printmaking.
