Spark Linux is not widely recognized, a somewhat unfamiliar non-mainstream Linux distribution!
This is a lightweight Linux distribution based on Debian, focusing on speed and stability, known for its quick boot time and low resource usage, making it suitable for older hardware and everyday use.
Like most other Linux distributions, Spark Linux also offers several different desktop environment images to meet the needs of different users.
It is worth noting that it does not provide a corresponding image version for the mainstream Linux desktop environment Gnome, but it does offer image versions for KDE and Xfce desktop environments, which is quite surprising.
Currently, Spark Linux 2025.09 is the latest semi-rolling version released, which is suitable for users seeking the latest features.

Changes:
-
Packages updated from Debian and Sparky testing repositories on September 14, 2025.
-
Linux kernel 6.16.7 (6.16.7, 6.12.47-LTS, and 6.6.105-LTS in Sparky repo)
-
Calamares installer updated to version 3.4.0; installation on encrypted disks has been restored
-
Firefox 128.14.0-ESR (143.0 in Sparky repo)
-
KDE: Quitterss replaced by Akregator
-
LXQt: Quiterss replaced by Liferea
-
GCC 15 (GCC 14 removed)
-
All Sparky graphical elements have been updated to the new testing version (Tiamat)
More update notes can be found in the official information.

But don’t think it only has this semi-rolling update version; Spark Linux also offers stable version releases, for example, its latest stable version is Spark Linux 8.0.1.
The difference between the stable version and the semi-stable version is that they are based on different versions of Debian, with the former based on the Debian stable version and the latter based on the Debian testing branch.

Final Thoughts
Generally speaking, Sparky is not a Linux distribution aimed at beginners, but rather for users with a certain level of Linux knowledge. However, if you have the willingness to try, it is still manageable, as most Linux distributions are now quite easy to install.
