The power supply products with built-in EtherCAT communication capabilities facilitate transparent power and system monitoring.
Beckhoff’s PS 2000 series has launched a new model with an integrated EtherCAT interface, further enhancing the existing three PS series power supply products. They can easily collect more measurement and device data, achieving comprehensive system monitoring to improve equipment utilization and reduce downtime. These power supplies combine compact design and high performance with predictive maintenance capabilities for the first time.
These brand new PS 2000 series power supply products integrate high-performance power modules with ultra-fast EtherCAT communication standards. By incorporating EtherCAT technology, controllers can directly process large amounts of measurement data and internal power supply data, establish remote connections with the power supply, and provide advanced monitoring capabilities for the DC output range (for system monitoring) or AC input range (for power supply monitoring).
In terms of system monitoring, important operating parameters such as output current and voltage are transmitted in real-time and continuously updated. This enables transparent data insights and automatically detects additional users added to the system in the future. Additionally, voltage, current, and temperature data can be included in the monitoring scope, for example, monitoring heat generation in devices and collecting basic device data such as the number of switch operations or operating time. In single-phase network monitoring, voltage fluctuations such as undervoltage and overvoltage can be detected based on input voltage values. This power supply product features a special function for detecting transient peak input voltage.
Status information, fault information, and alarms can also be provided directly on the control platform via EtherCAT, creating optimal conditions for analyzing the operating status of the equipment and detecting any faults early. Alarm thresholds (for example, overcurrent indication) that can be set in the control system allow for clear signal conditions to be defined for existing applications, enabling the power supply to adjust according to actual conditions. The remote connection enabled by EtherCAT also allows for precise shutdown of certain parts of the device in the event of equipment downtime or failure.
For 24V products, the power supply is available in 10A and 20A models, with output power of 240W and 480W, respectively. For 48V products, a 10A model with an output power of 480W is available. The layout of the power electronic devices is optimized, achieving an efficiency of up to 96.3%. In addition to surge current limitation and power factor correction (PFC), this series of power supplies features a wide input range, making it suitable for global use.
