TRMNL is a 7.5-inch wireless black-and-white e-paper display based on the ESP32-C3 RISC-V WiFi and Bluetooth SoC. It features a customizable design that allows users to disassemble the device, modify (open-source) firmware, and obtain API keys.

The default 1,800 mAh battery lasts over 3 months on a single charge, but the company also offers a 2,500 mAh battery option that can last over 6 months. The TRMNL wireless display can be placed on a desktop or mounted on a wall or refrigerator. The wireless display comes with a shell opener, and optional accessories include a USB-C cable, screen protector, and microfiber cloth.

The firmware, as well as API documentation and power consumption measurement instructions, are primarily open-sourced. The API documentation site provides more detailed explanations of the firmware and software design. It essentially implements a client-server model where the TRMNL firmware sends requests to the server to fetch content, plugins, or firmware.

The server hosts a range of native and custom plugins, with TRMNL plugins capable of displaying RSS feeds, photo slideshows, weather, Bitcoin or Ethereum wallets, calendars from Outlook or Google, Hacker News feeds, shopping lists, etc. Currently, there are 82 such plugins (as shown below).

Of course, it is very DIY-friendly, and you can also include third-party libraries (such as Highcharts) to create charts and graphs for data visualization (like line charts, bar charts, etc.).
