The 2025 China 5G + Industrial Internet Conference was recently held in Wuhan, Hubei. At the conference, the launch of commercial trials for satellite IoT services in China was announced.
The commercial trial period will last for two years, supporting eligible enterprises to develop satellite IoT services, which will enrich the supply in the satellite communication market and support the safe and healthy development of emerging industries such as commercial space and the low-altitude economy.
Satellite IoT utilizes satellite communication technology to connect a vast number of devices on the ground, at sea, and in the air, providing data collection and transmission services. Its application scenarios cover marine fisheries, transportation logistics, energy and water conservancy, emergency communications, low-altitude economy, and industrial internet, among others. In August of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the “Guiding Opinions on Optimizing Business Access to Promote the Development of the Satellite Communication Industry,” which systematically planned and coordinated the opening of satellite communication services.
